This has to be a troll right? No one votes for trump explicitly to piss off liberals and no other reason right? Right?

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 135 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Consider that a third of the country didn't even vote and you'll be much more ready to accept there's folks on the fringe who care just enough to vote, for petty reasons

[–] londos@lemmy.world 92 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

I can't imagine someone who voted to piss off liberals also has the media diet to know they're about to lose Medicaid.

[–] SunshineJogger@feddit.org 31 points 21 hours ago (5 children)

I'm interested in a morbidly sad way as to how many people in America will just suddenly be confronted with a new life or death situation they had not seen coming nor could prepare for.

We humans are far too good at fucking our own societies up and I feel like we really are so unfortunate to witness the end stages of a... Several, depending on how we cut the term society in today's interconnected reality

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 19 points 17 hours ago

What I expect is that those people will either a) receive a form letter saying that their Medicaid has not been renewed, b) simply not receive new Medicaid card after applying and being silently rejected, or c) have a hospital administrator explain that they owe $10,000 because Medicaid will not cover their charges. Obviously, the hospital is greedy and mean.

Unless those communications include the explicit phrase "because of Donald Trump's Medicaid cuts," few people will draw any connection between the mysterious, bureaucratic determination of Medicaid coverage and their 'tells is like it is' hero, bankrupt casino owner, Donald J Trump.

They think they are a protected class. Just another person dependant on California's excessive taxes

[–] Atherel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 43 points 21 hours ago

This has to be a troll right?

Maybe

No one votes for trump explicitly to piss off liberals and no other reason right? Right?

Unfortunately those idiots look at politics like it's a sport and they just want their team to win and laugh at the losers.

There are people that have never faced any serious consequence in their life. Life's great on autopilot. There's no critical thinking or sense of shared responsibility or empathy. The real world is a game you play to make fun of others misfortune.

…until it happens to you <shocked-pikachu-face.jpg>

Cue "I'm not a bad person, I didn't think at all, I still don't want to, but, someone please make it go away."

[–] Gigasser@lemmy.world 20 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

You would be surprised. Many people truly think "politics doesn't matter and my vote doesn't matter, thus if I'm gonna vote anyways, because why the hell not, seems fun to get involved and join the community of people also voting for trump and make these weak crybabies which annoy me whinge over my political choice, which isn't really that important because politics isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, then might as well vote for trump".

And then they complain as they get shunned by family and friends for voting trump, because they TRULY think that politics and political choices aren't important...somehow.

I don't get the whole Medicaid thing.

It has been a policy of the GOP since it was introduced to abolish Medicaid.

Medicare they pretend to support.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 23 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

No no no, they wanted to abolish oBaMaCaRe. Totally different thing. Obama is an evil commie, you know?

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 65 points 14 hours ago (11 children)

Very clearly fake. Come on lemmy, don't turn into reddit, please.

[–] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 14 hours ago (5 children)

sorry, what else would a reddit-clone full of reddit users be? I think a lot of people here are trying hard for this place to be reddit 🤷‍♀️

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (3 children)

I’m certainly one of those who hope this place will remain better than Reddit, but Reddit had a lot of good qualities for a lot of years.

Perhaps instead of generally hating on Reddit, we be more specific about the negative characteristic we don’t want. Are you specifically comolaining about fake content?

The problem is that while I recognize this is fake, it’s a satisfying circle jerk (or is that what you are specifically complaining about?), and is one of the possible answers to “why did they vote like that?”

This might be fake, but I have a neighbor like this.

She's been freaking out about groceries, the price of her meds going up, now losing her insurance.

I've helped her out a lot more than any orange has the last few months, yet she still spouts about how great he is. Although now with much less enthusiasm, and if you don't put trumps name in the conversation she sort of comes back to reality a little and can realize that a bill gutting social safety nets to give the 1% a huge tax cut isn't a fair deal.

It's a cult.

She should've seen this coming while she was still able to see. Thoughts and prayers. Good luck getting on SSI/SSDI before they cut that too.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 30 points 10 hours ago

Dear maga shithead:

Just to add insult to injury: any science that might have helped cure/treat you? That is gone too.

And its going to get a lot hotter and lot more expensive for you to live, and managing climate change? That is gone as well.

You fucked us ALL by your stupid choices.

[–] plyth@feddit.org 29 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Is this for real? It looks like rage porn.

People who are satisfied that you knew better, do you feel empowered from this confirmation? Empowered enough that you feel enough in control that you can calmly await whatever will come?

I can’t imagine being this spiteful. Honestly blows my puny mind.

Also, good chance this isn’t real as I also find it shocking that you would name your account in such a way so maybe it’s rage bait.

As tempting as it is and as upset as I am with everyone who voted for Fascism (purposely or due to ignorance), these people need to be compassionately educated rather than jeered at and told "That's what you get you fucking idiot."

This is a moment where they might realize the value of the services that the left believes they deserve as a fellow human being. Maybe they'll finally figure out that the propaganda they've been fed isn't a reliable source of truth.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 21 points 10 hours ago (4 children)

Their response to your plea for compassion and understanding:

"You talk like a fag."

The libs are the ones paying the medicaid tax, and who make to much to qualify to use it. The rich don't pay it on the majority of their income. So what we have here is the cost of socialism but none of the benefits on the middle class libs. The rich get sweet crony capitalism paid for by the middle class libs. The elderly happily use medicare + part B, paid for by the middle class libs, and then vote republican. Socialism's benefits with none of it's costs.

I would say republicans have been owning the libs for quite some time. The libs are tapped out though.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 14 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I’m happy to pay for that though. Obviously the rich need to pay more or be eaten. But I’m ok with my part in things.

[–] acchariya@lemmy.world 13 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I was ok with it until they started stripping rights from minority groups. I'm personally done subsidizing people who want me and my family destroyed.

Now is the time to look out for me and mine, and I will not vote for any candidate unless they will advocate for the socialist contract for EVERYONE, and package that with putting into law the rights important to me and my family. Either the US becomes a petro-techno-oligarchy or it gets fixed. In the former, I look out for me and don't subsidize people who try to take my rights away, and in the latter we all keep our beliefs from infringing on others and pay our share towards a greater good. I'm not waiting around footing the bill any longer though.

Perhaps intentionally voting against ones own financial interests

As a joke that NO ONE thought was funny

Might not have been a sound idea
