That’s probably the only way her major label would release it. The majors hate CDs as you can rip them and listen to a perfect digital copy as much as you like without generating a cent of streaming revenue (not to mention pirate them), so have been doing away with them, much in the way that Netflix won’t sell you an offline copy of your favourite show. (Vinyl is OK: it’s a premium-priced collectible, recordings of it sound like garbage, and while the buyer may give their vinyl record a ceremonial spin on special occasions, they’ll mostly stream it on Spotify or Youtube, generating revenue, as that’s more convenient.) A transparent novelty CD that only kinda works as a digital audio carrier but makes a collectible conversation piece fits the bill nicely.
My guess is that this is his a CD made by people who have grown up in the era of digital music, and a lot of these folks buy vinyls and CD to decorate bookshelves. Not to play.

Well it's not really worth fussing about. I mean they can never escape the analogue loophole...
Audio is super easy to copy and there are plenty of ways to do it. Copying will always happen, forever. DRM is just a spectacular waste of time for audio and video.
Have they been getting rid of CDs? I've still been able to get CDs of everything I've wanted. One I bought this year on Amazon even gave me a free digital key, so I didn't even have to rip it.
I think people just don't like CDs as much.
While obviously a fail on the part of the publisher, this can be fixed. The back side needs to be made opaque, which can be done numerous way… sharpie, enamel paint, or for something less permanent you can still buy CD labels which are vinyl or paper sheets die cut to the size of a CD and coated with an adhesive.
Probably the best way to fix this is to just download the file and play it from a device like a civilized person.
Randy Marsh might need to find a new hobby if this CD flops.
I wonder if spray painting the reverse side would make it playable.

So how did they write to the disc? It has to be readable if they actually wrote onto it.
They actually press commercial CDs instead of laser burning them like a CD-Rom.
Yes, exactly this.
But they also then spray the gaps with reflective material (aluminum-based shit maybe?) and seal it with a thicc cover material for protection.
Just put tin foil in top, you’ll be fine.
