Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

You mean TACO

[–] Zier@fedia.io 65 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This is exactly the outcome I expected. Let the war begin!

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

But did you expect it this fast?

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 60 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I'll believe it when it happens.

He's trying a shit attempt to distract people from the policies of trying to kill 258,000,000 Americans.

[–] BlemboTheThird@lemmy.ca 44 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

... it continues to be all bluster. I swear we're gonna get reports on the absolute nothing stories of these two talking shit until the end of time. God I wish I could somehow filter out these posts until something actually happens

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

You could just unsub from all the political communities and manually check the news once a day. I do this from time to time when it gets to be too much for me

[–] BlemboTheThird@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I want politics in my feed, though, just specifically not these two doing nothing! I have no idea how a filter like that would even be implemented (other than people just not posting them, lol) but I mean mahgawd.

Like, I thought about trying to filter out certain bluster-y keywords like "threatens, blasts, tweets, on X" but there are a lot of situations where even a statement can have consequences. I wanna know when minorities get blamed for insane bullshit again, or when nuclear war gets threatened again, or when someone is calling for peace talks again. Tariffs getting delayed for the 80th time is still gonna affect how things are getting priced.

But this nonsense where Trump say Musk bad, Musk say Trump bad, while neither of them have taken any actions against each other? No funding cuts to Musk companies, no investigations, no arrests. No specific opposition candidates being funded (if this even happens it'll still be a Republican), no DOGE backpedaling, no changes to Twitter, no re-banning Trump. just fucking god why who the fuck cares about any of the shit theyve said about each other over the last, what? 3 weeks???

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 hours ago

And the point here is to flood the space. If everyone is talking about the gossip 100% of the time, nobody has spare cycles to pay attention to what’s actually happening.

[–] thesystemisdown@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

An interesting application feature idea; filter profiles? Where filters, blocks, subscriptions, etc. are a set/group that can be toggled. You could make a separate account, I suppose. But there's also some likely overhead to consider.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

He threatened to primary anyone who votes for the big bill. If that isn't bullshit the bill will develop far more problems this week

[–] BlemboTheThird@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago

it IS bullshit. nothing has happened. everything they say is bullshit until they actually do it. reporting on their bullshit has always been bad, but the last few weeks of this ""feud"" in particular have been a special blend of it

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

He made very similar threats a few weeks ago and then almost immediately backed down when he realized that literally none of them were taking his side.

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 38 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (3 children)

People are making jokes but this is extremely dark and psychotic.

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 16 points 8 hours ago

If he will even just make threats to white, male, billionaire who publicly supported him and funded him, then hopefully its a wake up call to the other billionaires. May be then they can start paying the DNC and the R Supreme Court judges who like free holidays to actually do something about Trump.

I would be extremely surprised if Trump actually follows through with any of this, but Musk is more than capable of escalating the situation like last time to the point Trump has to follow through.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

As a naturalized citizen this is horrific. If he gets kicked out anyone can.

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

You didn't read the article.

Trump is saying if he takes away Elon's subsidies, Elon would be forced to pack up and go home.

Not that he would physically deport him.

It's a misleading title

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago
[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What, you thought it would only happen to the poor brown people?

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago

Ideally we would have open borders so I kind of hoped we wouldn’t target anyone

[–] atticus88th@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

I was saying that Musk needs to be investigated, have his assets seized by the government and deported for months now and everyone has been upvoting it. So now its dark and psychotic because Trump is saying it?

[–] SunshineJogger@feddit.org 11 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

As a general rule:

When any person who has shown by actions in the past that they are reasonable thinking, kind and generally have the true greater good in mind, a statement carries along this assessment background.

The exact same statement words delivered by a person with a history of nasty, cruel, uneducated, evil and erratic behavior gives very same words, it carries a very different notion woth it.

Exact same words, very different annotations.

I don't know you, so you can't be placed, but trump can clearly be placed.

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 3 points 7 hours ago

Its always been dark and psychotic.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 2 points 3 hours ago

The context of who does a thing and how they'd be likely to do it matters; a surgeon cutting into someone with a scalpel can help heal them, but an untrained idiot with the same scalpel is likely to make the situation even worse than if the surgery hadn't even been tried.

Though I don't agree with the deportation bit, I view unwilling deportation as cruel, and taking his obscene pile of wealth away would also remove most of his ability to negatively effect society anyway (and if it didn't, then him being physically in a different country probably wouldn't help much either, or else would be pushing the problem onto them instead of solving it.)

I'm hoping that Musk makes a deal with someone to expose election interference as a pardon or prevention from deportation

[–] boatswain@infosec.pub 3 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

How would that work? The President is the only one who can issue pardons, I thought.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

For federal crimes. Governors can pardon people for state charges. Elections are run by the individual state governments, so interference is generally a state-level crime. This is why Trump hasn't pardoned himself for his own interference convictions, because the violations were of state law in New York.

[–] boatswain@infosec.pub 1 points 3 hours ago

Makes sense; thanks!

[–] goldenquetzal@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Well if Musk comes out and admits that he helped rig the election them technically the president isn't the president eh? Plus informants make deals all of the time, I don't see how this is different

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Because next in line is Johnson ...who is also a maga shit

So it's 3-4 days until this "on again off again" is on again. They may be back together after the 4th of July weekend.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Lol.

I thought Musk was going to get more for his money before the inevitable breakup. But hey, we're talking about two dipshit loser man-children. So I guess this is all on schedule.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 hours ago

What about those other white south african businessmen he recently "saved".

Okay soooo, how did he get that black eye? Was he thrown out of government after the orange drifter sensed competition?
