Last winter it was really dry and cold and my ass cheeks started itching. I, of course, scratched them. I apparently scratched too hard as I developed welts on both ass cheeks. The welts itch and I can't stop scratching because I have no self control apparently.

I use lotion multiple times a day, I've used benadryl itch cream. Nothing seems to work. The itch is greatest after my workout and when I get in the shower. I thought maybe it was water temperature related, but I've gone from hot to cold and still itch like crazy.

I apparently need a cone of shame for my ass.

Anyone faced this before?

What did the doctor say? You may have a fungal infection, where the welts and itch aren't caused by dryness or the scratching, but by the fungus. It's actually really common and can be extremely annoying if left untreated. Some miconazole nitrate cream can really help out with this, just a few weeks of applying twice a day and it'll clear up.

But never take medical advice from the internet, go see a doctor and ask them what to do.

Outside of "potential fungal infection" and "see a doctor" which are definitely a combination you should look into, you might also want to look into any medications you're currently taking (good info to take to that doctor tbf), as they might have an effect. Also think about any changes to laundry detergent or soap you might have made. Or the manufacturers have made. "New formula!" can mean "Itchy formula!" for some people.

Also, if nothing else helps, you could try a daily anti-histamine to take down the irritation, which could help break the cycle of itch leading to scratch leading to further irritation. Be sure to check compatibility with any existing medication though.

Thank you so much.

This is going to sound unhelpful, but the trick is just don't itch. You have to rewire the part of your brain saying that scratching is how you make it itch less, and convince yourself that it's the opposite--noticing the itch and not touching it is how you'll make it go away. It's a bit like getting into an ice cold pool, feeling all your muscles tense up and your breathing gets tight, and telling yourself that staying in is how you'll get used to it. Fake it til you make it, then your brain will start to believe you.

Actually really helpful. Thank you. I am typically really good with self control. However, in this case I have proven to have none.

Thanks for taking the time.

As a fellow itchy person, of course! Happy to help!

take oral antihistamines(diphenhydramine, ceterezine, fexofenadine,,,etc), way more effective than the cream. if its through allergies, use this. also you might want to check for allergy tests. if it becomes persistant rash might want to see a doctor in case its a chronic thing. what did the dermatologist, or pcp say? a derm would be more suited for better diagnosis.

seems sweat related itching, take antihistamines.

Can confirm Mosquitobites and such go away in less than a day if you dont scratch it

Ok are you sure it's just dry skin? I once had MRSA and it spread to my ass cheeks, itched like crazy and the welts were huge.

Another thing could be allergies to something. I was taking Ozempic to help control diabetes and it did dry out my skin and my legs and ass were always itching.

It also it turned a patch of my skin on my head grey that would constantly flake along with my eyebrows

It's funny how simply moisturising twice a day stopped me tearing my skin apart from itching. And even moisturis8ng the area around my eyebrows helped with the flaking eyebrows. Oh and drink water.

Hydrocortisone cream. I don't know how I can live without that magic cream.

spent about 3 months in misery because some seemingly random days I'd end the afternoon with my back covered in hives from my belt to my neck.

turns out, I'm allergic to the foam used in the chair I sat in for meetings in the conf room. not my desk, so not every day, just often enough to really fucking lose my shit. and not always the same chair.

I apparently need a cone of shame for my ass.

lol this made me chortle, thanks, and good luck

What the rest said... Go to a doctor to have it looked at.

Maybe pubic lice?

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

I find a nice large bandage helps. The difference in how it feels under my fingers gives me just enough pause that I get a chance to notice and stop myself.

Bruh you LITERALLY just posted this here like 20 minutes ago. Really?

[–] rhacer@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I am completely unaware of a double post, so unsure how that happened.

[–] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Ya sure? The other post has a slightly different worded title. I don't believe it was an accident.

Edit: OP removed other post. Don't see it anymore.
