Already? I knew it wouldn't go anywhere but man that's the shortest attempt yet. I didn't think it was possible for them to disappoint me with my basement level expectations but they certainly have managed to do so.

The fact that half of the democrats also voted to kill this is depressing.
Makes no sense to me. You're the opposition party so if you all vote for it, it's not going to pass anyway. Just vote for it as a signal to voters that you do care. If you can do that song and dance for the minimum wage, why can't you do it for this?
I mean, obviously this is due to AIPAC having bought all those candidates, but still.
You're the opposition party
That's the problem. They're not, and they don't want to be. The Democratic Party leadership runs it as the alternative party to the Republican Party and nothing more. There were plenty of opportunities to platform and support actual progressive candidates, but they instead choose to run the same old kind of moderate "don't rock the boat"-type candidates and court conservative voters in the hopes of leeching votes away from Republicans.
The signal is that they don't care because that has the greatest personal benefit for them.
i was surprised it was only half as most of the dems are owned by aipac. dnc leader schumer works overtime to enable israeli warcrimes than fighting trumps lunacy. there is a reason dnc chose loosing the election over condemning israel in any way when they were bombing hospitals full of infants. if we are to get back our democracy then every aipac backed democrat needs to be kicked to the bottom of each and every primary.
["My job is to keep the left pro-Israel" -Chuck Schumer]("My job is to keep the left pro-Israel" -Chuck Schumer)
Did you mean to paste a source link for that quote?
I already know the vote will fail, and even if it doesn't the Senate won't convict. But, Jesus, the Democrats need to do something. Even a symbolic gesture is welcome, and it's better if it can gum up the works and make Trump's agenda come to a screeching halt.
I very much agree but can I just say any time they do a symbolic gesture 90% of Lemmy loses their shit too?
Because they shouldn't be doing only symbolic gestures; they should be doing things that matter. Symbolic gestures are nice in addition to that, but when all they're doing is one symbolic gesture every few weeks or months while bending over the rest of the time you've got a problem.
These are the third articles of impeachment this term. They’re not going anywhere until after next November.
So you agree the peaceful protests won’t bring about meaningful change in the next year or so at a minimum?
They’re the most effective way to increase our numbers. Everyone has an opinion on the internet, yet most people still watch protests on their phones. The people who sit out protests at times like this are often the same ones who sit out midterm elections.
I’ve already told my Rep (one of the 128) that I’m supporting her primary opponent (if there is one); should she be the name on the ballot I’m skipping her. She’s part of the Dems that had a chance to do something 2021-2023 and squandered the opportunity, leading to what we have now. Why the hell would I continue to support her?
I agree with you if she has a bad voting record overall. This vote alone is meaningless. The point was to get it on record. An impeachment hearing would do more harm than good, knowing full well we don’t have the votes for removal.
Mike Johnson is a toady giving ol Don a good old deep throated blow. Until (though really, if) the Senate and House flip, there won't be any attempt with real legs.
Nah. Al Green and Shri Thanedar’s articles were filed and shelved in the same day as well. They’re just doing it to have them on record. It’s a waste of Senate floor time when they would be conducting oversight hearings, challenging provisions in Republican bills, and collecting the information needed for the ACLU to take these cases to the courts.
Despite the constant criticism, people who watch CSPAN are fully aware of how Democrats are using every last second of their floor time to challenge this regime.
Most Democrats joined the Republican majority to table the measure
Fucking utter cowards all.
US democracy dies cause Dems can't/won't fight effectively or message appropriately.
And don't come at me with "they and their families are under threat from MAGA terrorists"...
Know what? Our predecessors who fought for US democracy were under similar if not worse threats... They stood up then in the face of those threats and these current cowardly fucks can just as well stand the fuck up now or continue to wear the coward badge. Fucking sick of Dem cowardice.
FFS.
Absolutely agree
“At this time, at this moment, we are focusing on what this big, ugly bill is going to do,” he said about the big Trump tax breaks package making its way through Congress. “I think anything outside of that is a distraction because this is the most important thing that we can focus on.”
Such a garbage excuse.
Republicans will ram through whatever shit they can whether it's legal or not, and Democrats will trip over their own dicks and let the parliamentarian block them even when they have a majority.
I increasingly feel like voting for people is a bad system. I don't want to pick someone to make all the decisions for me: just let me vote directly on the issue dammit. Tired of representatives lying to get elected or doing heel turns or chickening out.
If only we had a Congress that could do 2 things at the same time
They’re able to lie and suck off Trump at the same time.
Note that he didn't say anything about actually DEFEATING that bill.
Like with Trump himself, they'll just fundraise on it while refusing to break any norms to defeat or even stall it.
And Vichy Democrats wonder why their approval rating is down in the Mariana Trench. Fuck this damn party
I'll say this as many times as needs to be said. Liberals will see this shit and then tell you to rally around the Democrats with a straight face.
US democracy dies cause Dems can’t/won’t fight effectively or message appropriately.
Really? It looks to me like US democracy dies because a majority of Americans voted for the overt fascists, largely based on disinformation, propaganda and prejudice, and helped along by a dollop of voter suppression.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not American.
The only correction is that a plurality of voters that voted voted for the overt fascists.
Neither candidate won a majority...
A huge swath of Americans eligible to vote failed to vote at all largely based on disinformation, propaganda and prejudice, and helped along by a dollop of voter suppression.
Y’all, is it possible that both parties are fucking terrible and don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves?
That's my issue with referring to the US Government as Biden or Trump or Obama. This whole time Congress had just been taking shits all over the place and not having to clean it up. And now we've got a rogue POTUS and Congress is acting like there's nothing they can do.
The entire US Government is currently an enemy of the state.
Remember these cowards names when they are asking for your vote. They don’t care about you or this country and we don’t fucking care about your political future.
I wrote my congresswoman and told her she lost my vote over this.

Vote results for "a motion to table Impeaching Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors" can be found here (where "yay" means a vote to shut down impeachment proceedings and "nay" means a vote to continue with them): https://clerk.house.gov/evs/2025/roll175.xml
Representatives are listed by last name only in this list (without state affiliation unless there are multiple). Find your rep and let them know what you think about their choices.
Good! This Impeachment was just a DISTRACTION! NOW that it's Gone the Democrats can FINALLY get on with Their Plan of doing EVERYTHING Trump and the Republicans want!
OMG really? That must have been so hard for you
Wow, but didn’t they see all the peaceful protests?
This is fucked up. I'm so pissed! You know what will get the results I want? Let's sit and do nothing during the midterms! I'm sure that'll pressure them to change their ways!
/s for the those gifted ones incapable of telling without an explicit statement.
I’m so pissed I’ll probably not vote next time!! 🥴
Just vote harder for blue fascists and cowards! They'll change their positions if you freely give them the only thing they need from you!
The article of impeachment failed miserably. So many Democrats voted Nay. It was a complete waste of everyone's time. Why can't the Democrats find something more productive to do?
This vexes me
The Iran strike is a terrible reason to try and impeach Trump. That's why so many Democrats tabled it. While impeachment is a political process, you need something to attach to it that's plausibly illegal, this was a legal action.
If they focused on sending marines to LA or the rampant detaining of citizens by ICE who technically has no authority to do so, they might actually get somewhere.
There’s nothing legal about war without congressional authorization. Just because it happened before doesn’t make it legal.
It had congressional authorization, that's what the war powers act does.
Its a waste of time, impeaching this dipshit doesnt do anything. Focus on the real issues like billionaires controlling the country and the voters will support the dems.
