Inspector Anderson came up with what became known as the Brownsville Safety Alliance, a group of neighborhood and city groups, police officers and members of the Kings County district attorney’s office who worked together to ensure that fewer people were arrested and entangled in the criminal justice system.

Inspector Anderson said he decided he wanted to change the way precinct officers interacted with residents after he approached a woman grilling outside.

“The look of fear she gave me, and I was like ‘Wow, I didn’t come on this job for someone like that to look at me,’” he said in an interview posted by Mayor Eric Adams on social media in November 2021. “That told me we had work to do.”

I have to say, this was not the twist I was expecting. I assumed this was a case where he was letting people in who were to prone to aggression or something. Now I wonder.

I want to know why he overruled the negative psych evaluations. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to find out he was removed because he permitted applicants to progress who failed because the test showed that they weren't violent enough.

Edit for clarity.

I wouldn't be surprised either. There is an intelligence portion on which you'll be disqualified if you score too high. I wonder if it was that part.

Likely. For reference: the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York said it’s “not discrimination” if they kick you for scoring high on the cop intelligence test. I’m guessing it involves making a toy truck go vroom.

If they set the bar at a rational level, no one could be cops.

The article is not what you think it is.
