I am trying to kick Reddit, I get a lot of my Saskatchewan news from there and I am in a lot of groups so I can scroll and see things. What are some groups I can join here that are a good idea?

  1. Become the change you wish to see; if you feel a certain group is lacking, take the initiative to create it yourself like a hobby group or a town group.

  2. Endless scrolling? Check out Wikitok: https://wikitok.vercel.app/

  3. What do you truly gain from Reddit? Is it valuable local news that enhances your daily life, or is it merely a source of dopamine and cortisol spikes?

When Reddit restricted third-party apps, I went cold turkey and discovered just how little I was actually benefiting from it. Lemmy won't provide that same experience, and there's a reason for that.

I tried but it seems to be for not.

Unfortunately, for a lot of stuff, there just isn't a replacement from Reddit currently. Your best bet would be trying to find other local news sources and follow them individually, likely with an RRS.

That said, if you have the time and energy, the only way Lemmy will grow is with active users. If you join one or more of the more active Lemmy communities (likely the one Sunshine suggested) and try to post when you can, that goes a long way to either keeping these smaller communities alive, or helping them grow.

Me as well. Reddit is American anyway. So trying to kick American digital products as well. Lots of new users to Lemmy lately so let’s keep going! Reddit is getting so much worse anyway.

If you find something or someone interesting click on "View user" and see where they post and comment to find more communities of your likings.

!regina@lemmy.ca has a small community that needs more help to grow.

Which other communities/groups were you a part of? I can see if I already know of something similar

I also recommend this guide: https://fedecan.ca/en/guide/lemmy/for-users/how-to-find-communities

It has tips for how to find new communities passively, how to actively search for a topic, etc.
