Morrowind is a nuanced exploration of colonialism, thematically similar to Things Fall Apart. You want to read Morrowind with a copy of The Wretched of the Earth and Orientalism next to you for the full experience.

I'm currently playing OpenMW as Argonian and I'm glad a volcanic eruption took that shithole island out. Bunch of jerks!

That and dragon age as an elf were wonderful, because you play through as the 'superior' race (dark elf / human for morrowind/dragon age) first and don't even realize how fucked up it can be. Each time I just happened to play that order and it was amazing.

My very first playthrough for Dragon Age was as an elf mage. So I got shit on from both sides; People hated me for being an elf, and were scared of me for being a mage outside of the mage’s tower.

I later replayed it as a human rogue, and it was such a drastically different experience. Not just due to the gameplay changes between the classes, but also because of the sudden and complete lack of constant racism.

Things Fall Apart

Now on my to-read list!

It's a great book but leaves you feeling sad and angry

I sincerely hope this is the next remaster.

But then you’d probably lose things like Tamriel Rebuilt. I think you can get a “remastered” experience with texture packs/MGE or even delve into the dark magic that is OpenMW.

Or Morroblivion hahaha. Wonder if my voice files are in there somewhere still.

I have been wanting too play it but even Oblibion (unmodded) was too dated when I went to play. Excited for the chance now. Now, I don't mind things that are dated within reason (CRPGs come to mind since they are point and click or things like DA1 or Witcher 2)... Where do you suggest I go if I want a fairly modern experience for Morrowind and I am not afraid of Frankensteining mods together?

I would suggest OpenMW and exploring these mod lists.

Keep in mind combat in Morrowind is closer to something like KOTOR or DND - swinging your weapon at an enemy is running a “to hit” roll which is massively affected by your fatigue. Most people who struggle to get into Morrowind are put off by either 1) the amount of reading needed or 2) the combat. Just view swinging your weapon as rolling a d20 to see if your hit connects or not, keep your fatigue bar full, and try to only use attack skills you have at least 40+ in (cheesing training is easy if you have problems with this.)
