I've got 3 of those at home (actually got one as a gift last week) but we don't use it because the open honey jar attracts ants. So we use spoons. I do like it though.
Why would this tool necessitate leaving the honey jar open at all times?
collapsed inline media
The hole for the tool (I actually don't know the proper name) is large enough for ants to get through.
I don't know if there's like a specific German name for it, but the term that I do know is just "honey dipper"
If you leave a spoon in the jar the same way, is the opening too small for ants to get in?
In my area of the world, we have ants that are small enough to get in with either tool propping the lid open
But how large are the holes in your walls or windows to let the ants through?
Are you an alien from another planet?
I've only ever had like a single ant that came in when i opened the door. I would then pick it up and set it outside or sometimes kill it. I never had a whole line of ants enter my house and I'm certain they can't.
How are you that certain? Do you live in a hermetically sealed clean room?
lol do you not have any other bugs in your house? houses aren't built to be airtight because you'd literally have trouble opening and closing doors due to suction or pressurization. if they're not airtight then bugs can get in
Honestly, no. I only ever have singular moths or ladybirds or stinkbugs that fly in when I open the window. They're easy to catch and set outside. Some spiders here and there. Maybe house flies in the summer, but not too many.
I've read about protecting your sugar from ants on the internet, but have never heard about that from people irl and never seen the need for it.
I live in a brick house, not a wood frame house, which might be the explanation.
I think you are just lucky.
At my house we don't keep food sitting out so there is not a reason for ants to explore in too much, but in the spring especially they explore in the foyer.
Yeah I think you’re just lucky. I also live in a masonry house and would describe the bugs I get inside as much less than your description. For the most part, sweets and stuff are in sealed containers.
But my weak point is dog food. Not the container, the bowl. If the dog scatters crumbs and we don’t notice or don’t clean it same day, we’ll get that line of ants cleaning it for us.
They’re always there, ready and waiting until you need their help cleaning something
You’re not going to see that until one of the scouts discovers the open honey jar and reports back
