I think there's more good stuff out there than ever, but:

  • We don't have a good search engine to locate it.
  • It's easier than ever to put stuff out there, so it's lower quality on average.
  • People hide their stuff inside discord servers and, increasingly, behind paywalls.

Right! It's not that there's less. It's that there's a discoverability issue, and on top of that more stuff means less cultural relevance for any given work.

This is what hurts the most tbh. Miss the days when all your friends were playing the same handful of games, everyone was talking about the same handful of movies and TV shows, etc. Of course variety is great and being able to choose where to invest your time is better than being locked in to a small pool of choices, but it sucks when you feel like you've stumbled upon a masterpiece, and nobody cares about it.

I dunno, i have teenage nephews.. they all play the same games, watch the same movies, and watch the same shows.

but they are teenagers. their world horizon is very limited.
