This is the flag that I grew up with at my childhood home.

I “desecrated” it in 1989, when President George Bush pushed for a Constitutional amendment to ban flag burning or desecration following the Supreme Court’s Texas v Johnson decision.

It has been hanging in my garage for more than 30 years now.

I could never have imagined that this issue would rear its ugly head again, but here we are.

This particular flag is special to me because of its history, so I will not be taking it out to protests.

I do, however, intend to purchase several new flags and similarly “desecrate” them with the first fucking amendment.

I invite you to do the same.

The flag is just an object. The only ones bound to treat it with respect by any laws are those who work for the government. the flag code does not apply to civilians. The flag should be treated with the same respect that our government treats us with.

It’s also an acceptable way to dispose of an unserviceable flag. As far as I’m concerned the government it represents is abhorrent enough to justify ceremonial disposition across the entire country.
