Yeah, America is in the midst of a fascist coup .... the question is not if or when it is happening (it's already started) .... the question is when the people will react to it to stop it or let it all just fester and go on until it's way too late to do anything about it all.
The latter. They think they can still vote their way out of fascism in 2026 and 2028. Until they experience a famine caused by the GOP and oligarchs running the economy into the ground, people are not going to be pissed off enough to do anything of consequence.
Even if Trump came out tomorrow and say "I am now your dictator. I am going to enslave you all, and if you don't agree, you'll go to a deathcamp where you'll be starved, tortured and worked to death". Americans would still just be a bit pissy, and half the country would still make excuses for him like "It's going to make everything much more efficient". While the other half are whining about not being able to resist, because things could always get worse for them personally.
The bread and circuses is still going strong in the US.
(Un)fortunately not enough people across the country have personally experienced severe negative consequences yet. I give it like 6 more months (optimistically) until it gets bad enough for everyone to start mobilizing.
Takes a few missed meals. It'll happen.
But honestly, would you rather have a fascist dictator and be able to feed and shelter yourself, or have no food and in a violent domestic war? Just something to consider. When people get hungry that's when action happens as has been historically shown, but who knows what comes after that.
It'd be great if they were toppled and some form of competent leadership and "normalcy" (when was the last normal period that we'd like to return to even?), but with violence comes further instability, death, imprisonment, etc. Ideally we can do everything non-violently within the system, but that hasn't really worked so... I don't know...

Absolutely that's true all over the world. However in many dictatorships there are also plenty of well-fed people. Not as many as in a free society of course, but just because it's a dictatorship doesn't mean every citizen is starving. That's not me downplaying Trump becoming a dictator btw, that's still completely fucking crazy and he needs to be stopped.
Plenty of well fed people, as long as your one of the special ones.
