What’s wild about Teams’ popularity is that nobody actually seems to like it. I know Slack gets some shit too, but I’ve also seen people defend it. I freaking hate teams. Nothing about it works exceptionally well. It’s just a hodgepodge of kind of working features.
Kind of working features that get ever so slightly worse with each update.
I have to use Windows and Teams for work and I’m starting to feel like a computer historian or an operating system archeologist every time I use my work PC.
Someone called me directly on Teams the other day and the old Skype ringtone played; now I already knew that MS absorbed Skype but it was weird because the actual ringtone is sort of low-fi, like it’s probably the same 20 year old .wav file.
I’m pretty sure the new W11 file explorer is just Edge which is just Chrome.
I feel like I’m looking at geological layers whenever I dive into OS settings.
Some window skins are clearly from Vista.
Aesthetically it is a nightmare, but it also clearly demonstrates that W11 is six operating systems in a trenchcoat.
W11 is six operating systems standing on each other's shoulders, wearing a trenchcoat
i seem to have ended up with my linux install being six desktop environments walking in a row, wearing a horse costume
Slack is still worse.
Also, Teams is a work app. Why would anyone like it? We only use it because we have to.
Well, you do, I got fired so I dont do shit but look for a new job.
I like Teams. A huge chunk of it is that it is rolled into an overall subscription that includes a bunch of other stuff I need - and is WAY less expensive than piecing alternative apps together. But I also use it to create a central workspace for myself by embedding things like, dashboards, apps/automations, and lists (which can subsquently be attached to automationsnand dashboards). More recently I've attached it it Agents to the library of content to help speed up my work. The fact that the share and leave buttons in a meeting are right next to each other and I regularly leave meetings instead of sharing is actually a bonus. I don't think any of us really want to be on that call.
Would be nice if the basics at least work.
On my Linux machine I often need to start it twice, because all chats and stuff just show up empty.
I just heard last week, that some colleagues on other Linux distributions face the same issue.
Not sure if it's some company VPN issue or an app issue, regardless, teams sucks and I'll die on that hill.
It's probably not playing nicely with your operating system. I don't have those kinds of issues - all the basics work in the latest Windows. 🤷
