The Trump administration is considering plans to create a squad of 600 National Guard soldiers who would be ready to deploy into U.S. cities to tackle civil unrest, according to a report.

As part of the “Domestic Civil Disturbance Quick Reaction Force,” troops would be equipped with weapons and riot gear, ready to deploy within an hour under the proposals, which could cost hundreds of millions of dollars, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

Troops would be split in half, with 300 stationed at headquarters in Alabama and 300 in Arizona, according to the newspaper.

How much would 600 bullets cost?

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

There's a lot of variables there...

This is kind of like asking "How much for 600 sandwiches?"

How much does the average .50 round cost? I figure we ought to give them something good.

Edit : Apparently it’s four dollars a round

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

.50bmg is about $5-$10 a round, on the low end, but depending on how tight spacing is, you probably wouldn't need 600

[–] marsza@lemmy.cafe 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I think they should be individually used, very slowly

[–] rbos@lemmy.ca 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

It's more cost efficient to use the whole bullet.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago

Cave Johnson here, why do we not use the whole bullet? Sure you fire a bit of lead but imagine what you could do if you fired the brass and powder as well? So I got the boys down in the lab working on it, they created something called a coilgun. Don't really know or care what that means but you should care, because we are going to give you one to fight the ever growing army of mantis men! Don't worry they don't eat people.

That’s probably true. I think the most expensive part would be the blade, but you can keep sharpening that – unlike a bullet. I think either would be acceptable, but certainly the guillotine would be more entertaining

The point of the guillotine was to give all citizens an equal, dignified and relatively painless death. Too good for those fucks.

Yeah. Before the French Revolution execution via beheading was reserved for nobles, and it was done manually using a weapon rather than via a machine. Meanwhile commoners got to have all the wonderful medieval execution methods like breaking on the wheel and burning at the stake. In the interest of Enlightenment ideals, abandoning medieval barbarism and equality between citizens the Legislative Assembly voted to do away with this system and made it so all French citizens got a execution via beheading like the nobility. However, executioners said that if the lines got too long they might have to rush their work, and a sloppy job would cause undue suffering to the condemned, defeating the point of the whole affair. This is where the clean and efficient guillotine came in. The guillotine as a tool was meant to bring the masses up, not bring the nobility down. That's not what it's associated with nowadays, but it's plenty dignified compared to being hanged, drawn and quartered.
