The point of the guillotine was to give all citizens an equal, dignified and relatively painless death. Too good for those fucks.
Dignified? Really?
Yeah. Before the French Revolution execution via beheading was reserved for nobles, and it was done manually using a weapon rather than via a machine. Meanwhile commoners got to have all the wonderful medieval execution methods like breaking on the wheel and burning at the stake. In the interest of Enlightenment ideals, abandoning medieval barbarism and equality between citizens the Legislative Assembly voted to do away with this system and made it so all French citizens got a execution via beheading like the nobility. However, executioners said that if the lines got too long they might have to rush their work, and a sloppy job would cause undue suffering to the condemned, defeating the point of the whole affair. This is where the clean and efficient guillotine came in. The guillotine as a tool was meant to bring the masses up, not bring the nobility down. That's not what it's associated with nowadays, but it's plenty dignified compared to being hanged, drawn and quartered.
Isn't hanging quick and painless tho?
Tou should looking "hanging, drawing and quartering." It's a single execution method and it's neither quick nor painless.
Yeah, most of the time it wasn’t done right at all the British had a table to make sure your neck broke but think about people that become executioners and think if they’re always trying to see a quick death
