How does FDR expect me to hear his fireside chats when a Merconi costs so much!?
Now imagine that FDR owns the company that sells the Merconi
I dont think there is a surefire way to prove that he did not profit in some way. Is there really an emoluments clause.
The airwaves are owned by the government and radio signals can be received a number of different ways. Some more expensive. You can even build your own.
Unlike the BBC, you don’t need to register or pay a fee to listen to the radio. They have no idea if you’re listening or not.
Technically you don't need to sign up to listen, also you can just tell the tv licence inspectors to piss off and get a warrant
Really think about this. You'll understand that it's not a great comparison.
It was a tasteless joke, meant to poke fun at history and how it leans towards repetition. I wrongly assumed that invoking an older technology, with its very own paywall, would be understated enough to get a chuckle, or at least an eyeroll.
The joke just didn't have legs
