All about dogs - dog breeds, dog training and behavior, news affecting dog owners or handlers, puppy pics, etc.

Rules (Will be refined later on).

  1. Don't be a dick. This should cover most things, just keep in mind that everyone started somewhere and try to be helpful rather than rude or judgmental.

  2. No personal attacks based on training style or tools.
Discussion of balanced training including proper use of aversives is allowed here.

  3. All breeds and mixes are welcome. You can criticize backyard breeding practices but don't pile on people because they own a specific breed or prefer purebreds or mixed breeds.

  4. Do not support backyard breeders or puppy mills. Please do not link to or suggest buying from high volume breeders or those with an obvious lack of standards and testing.

  5. Do not help or support fake service animals. Please do not encourage people to buy fake service dog vest or ESA letters to get around rental or other restrictions & do not give advice on how to misrepresent a dog as a service or support animal.

The 8-pound dog went missing on the rugged Kangaroo Island in Australia in November 2023 while on vacation with her owners. After a 529-day search, the pup is finally safe and back in human care.

"After weeks of tireless efforts by Kangala Wildlife Rescue volunteers and partner organizations, Valerie has been safely rescued and is fit and well. We are absolutely thrilled and deeply relieved that Valerie is finally safe and able to begin her transition back to her loving parents, Josh and Georgia."

Newbie was a rescue from a dog fighting house. According to the shelter from which we got her, they couldn't get her to fight, so they used her for breeding. For her entire life with us, she had scars from where they tied her down for breeding... But despite coming from the most abusive background imaginable, she was the absolute sweetest dog. She was in my life for about a decade and, other than in her sleep, I never once heard her make an aggressive sound.

Unfortunately, she died a few years ago from a failing pancreas. She's the only dog I ever had to choose to let die. I wish she were still here.

edit: She was really stinky, though.

Kukur Tihar, also known as "Day of the Dogs,” is a Hindu festival in Nepal dedicated to honoring dogs.  It falls on the second day of Tihar, a five-day Hindu festival celebrated around October or November.

On this day, people worship dogs, decorating them with garlands and applying vermilion tika (a red mark) on their foreheads. Dogs are also offered food and treats
