Do you have a list of movies, games and whatnot to pirate this year?

I know I do, something to make the holidays a little more cheery since budgeting appears to be tight. I need something to make me somewhat happy.

The EU has announced a €3 billion ($3.52 billion) strategy to reduce its dependency on critical raw materials and other goods from China, citing the nation’s “weaponization” of supplies.

...

EU industry commissioner Stéphane Séjourné said the trading bloc is considering legally forcing industries to reduce purchases from China in order to insulate Europe from future hostile acts.

The Commission's newly unveiled ReSourceEU program seeks to de-risk and diversify the bloc’s supply chains by introducing new rules to stop scrap aluminum leaving the bloc, recycling of magnets used in car batteries and a new €2 billion-per-year fund backed by the European Investment Bank to support industries diversifying away from cheap Chinese supplies.

Séjourné said that, if European industry did not respond, the commission reserved the right to introduce legislation.

“We would force European companies legally to diversify their sources of supply. That is not the case now, and it is not what is proposed in the plan [ReSourceEU], but this is a wakeup call, a strong wakeup call,” said Séjourné.

The EU trade commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said Brussels remained committed to the concept of open access to its markets but that was repeatedly “fire-fighting” a succession of crises, including the disruption to the car industry caused by the recent, now lifted, ban on exports of chips by China in response to the Dutch government taking control of the Chinese-owned chip firm Nexperia.

...

Meanwhile, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also warned that China is increasingly weaponizing economic ties for political gains.

Just wondering if releasing the steam deck 2 on arm would be a huge deal. I know arm is famous for being more efficient, but would it still be better, even when using FEX?

Donald Trump’s grip on the Republican Party has survived countless political setbacks, a global pandemic, and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. It will survive his ugly Monday morning social media post about the death of Rob Reiner too.

However, the immediate backlash to that post, in which Trump suggested that the Hollywood director had somehow brought death upon himself due to his disdain for the president, illustrates just how much that grip has slackened.

So far, in the intervening hours, congressional Republicans and other figures on the right have taken to the internet, without being prompted, to criticize Trump. The critics aren’t just swing-district Republicans, like Rep. Mike Lawler, of New York, or Trump adversaries, like libertarian Rep. Thomas Massie, of Kentucky. Instead, even an otherwise loyal Republican, Rep. Stephanie Bice, of Oklahoma, has chastised the president for the post. “A father and mother were murdered at the hands of their troubled son. We should be lifting the family up in prayer, not making this about politics,” wrote Bice on Twitter.

Naveed Akram previously known to security agencies, prime minister says. His gun-owning father, Sajid, was shot dead by police at the scene

The alleged gunmen behind the Bondi beach attack are a father-son duo suspected of using legally obtained firearms to commit the massacre, according to police.

Naveed Akram, 24, was arrested at the scene and taken to a Sydney hospital with critical injuries. His 50-year-old father, who the Sydney Morning Herald first reported to be Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police.

The pair allegedly killed 15 people, with dozens more injured in the shootings, which took place on Sunday during a gathering to celebrate the first night of Hanukah.

The son was known to New South Wales police and security agencies, while his father had a firearms licence with six weapons registered to him. All six firearms have been recovered, police said.

All over the world, democratic socialism failed in the face of ascendant fascism as “socialists” allied with bourgeois republics. The many millions of dead call to us from beyond the grave to not repeat this mistake.

Data shows the headline unemployment rate continued to climb and hit 4.6%, a four-year high, last month

The US labor market grew by more than expected last month, recovering some of the damage inflicted by the federal government shutdown, according to official data.

An estimated 105,000 jobs were lost in October, and 64,000 were added in November, a highly-anticipated report showed on Tuesday.

Jobs growth was higher in November than anticipated by many economists, with a consensus forecast of some 40,000 jobs added. But the headline unemployment rate continued to climb – and hit 4.6%, a four-year high, last month.

The latest jobs numbers, typically released monthly, were delayed due to the government shutdown. They land amid significant uncertainty surrounding the strength of the US economy.
