“They have to wear it somehow”

The elephant may disagree with that.

Its actually been proven that AI can and will lie. When given a ability to cheat a task and the instructions not to use it. It will use the tool and fully deny doing so.

Edit:

Not sure why the downvotes because when i say proven i mean the research has been done and the results have been known for while

I recognize that this is a very different angle but there is a global trend for free open source software which are non profit by design.

Of course this basically means you need to be a developer and than there is still the question about how to survive within economic society.

I doubt you want to live from donations coming from where you are now.

The sweet spot, which might be viable for you is an open source devision within a for profit company. Many industries have started to understand the massive value of open source software and standards. Companies like redhat build open source tools on one side but then sell industry tailored packages and support to enterprises for profit. Even Nvidia has started to open source some level of their drivers because they realized that enthusiast will often improve on those for zero costs.

I imagine in some of those divisions its just like a normal company with not just devs but all kinda of roles your direct product will be used by the for profit stuff but also be free for everyone else out there that might need it.

Alternative self-host solution that does not require a pi.

Get hold of a functioning spare pc with any os that can run docker containers ( highly recommended proxmox for server and opensense for diy router but that may be to advanced) but most os incl windows should work.

Install adguard home in a docker container. Its a dns based blocker like pihole above. Just set your devices to its ip for dns.

Want it on the go? If you have an internal vpn (wireguard) you can set it up so your tunneling al your traffic from home with all protections persisting.

I have not found a way on ios to block those last pesky ads that adguard misses but its still day and night difference.

Isn't this kinda what you want?

I am an uncontrollable perfectionist in this scenario. I have yet to start to write down any of the narratives that have lived in my head for years because i feel the tiniest detail or Nuance needs a research paper of its own for it to make sense.

I am more likely to die of old age then write a single chapter but someone is going to inherit a huge collection of neo-science articles.

Not bad because of that but many of the donations going to isreal fits some larger patterns i have picked up on since i started to pay attention to the gaza war.

It started with realizing how involved aipac is in a us election cycle. The "about us" information does not mask things

"WE STAND with those who stand with Israel. The AIPAC PAC is a bipartisan, pro-Israel political action committee. It is the largest pro-Israel PAC in America and contributed more resources directly to candidates than any other PAC. 98% of AIPAC-backed candidates won their general election races in 2022."

Somehow that’s not foreign interference.

Then i became aware of how all the major tech companies have additional offices in "Silicon Wadi" Which is some kind of clone of Silicon Valley owner by Isreal.

But add one very major nuance. My issue is with the Isreal state and corporations that reside their, the global organized entities. It is not with its people or the Jewish religion. I am somewhat fascinated by the origin of Abrahamic religion and them being the oldest makes them a truly fascinated culture to learn from.

Yeah i have stopped using it last week actually.

If you have the extension you have no ads but whenever i wanted to send a link to someone those are poisoned. Using the direct link to wikipedia also had the url encoded for using older settings.

No idea about the israel connection. If i hadent left for those other reasons i would have now

So now only criminals will be able to steal peoples cars. Well done.

They wont even be banned (which would be stupid) Its on the owner to proof they have it for legitimate reasons. The end result will mean the devices will be more hidden in everyday seeming devices. And if they do eventually ban them fully that legal local technological knowledge will be dragging behind criminal innovation.

You want these devices out there to increase awareness of their existence and to pressure manufacturer to make their devices more safe.

Example: Remember how Tesla can remote (un)lock cars? Exploit waiting to happen and the potential ban on encryption is going to make it so much worse.

Ostrich politics.

I have heard of the opposite. Mastodon users can see and comment on lemmy posts, but i have yet to discover how to view mastodon post from lemmy.

If it is indeed possible can you or anyone elaborate how to?

https://www.wikiwand.com/ is what your looking for, its basically a wrapper with a modern UI

If you visit the site straight from the web there may be ads but if you use the extension there shouldn’t be

They are also a leading donor to wikipedia so its not like they’re just stealing content for profit. You may indirectly do more to get money in wikipedia their hands then you do by visiting the main site.
