I'm opposed to this oversimplification, even if he's a confirmed Russian asset we can't just imagine that erasing Trump and Putin will solve everything.

Fascism has reared its head and it wasn't just due to Putin and Trump. Real systemic change is required in the politics and the economy of the United States.

If they just go back to Bidening things up after Trump and assume everything is great there's going to be a very rude awakening.

We can't keep iteratively adopting Fascism, technological advances and the interdependence of the global economy has already made it so this time might destroy us all. Next time definitely will.

Sorry I've been imprecise again, I meant the root comment that's from Lung.

Fair enough, I'm not going to do a background check on every poster but I see that I was lumping your response in with the originator of the thread and could have given yours a more charitable interpretation.

A Canadian state likely won't survive a war but the Canadian insurgency would be worse for Americans than anything they've dealt with before. We have tons of wilderness and the world's longest and currently poorly defended land border. Afghanistan and Vietnam were domestically unpopular halfway across the world, now imagine the same quagmire miles from American population centers with frequent strikes in those population centers by Canadian insurgents.

It's not for "asking a question"

  1. I suspect the professionals looking into this potential fraud are going to think of these things.
  2. when and how hard you choose to play devil's advocate says something about you.
  3. whether well intentioned or not this is Musk apologia at best, and excuses/misinformation at worst. I think our Transport Minister does basic diligence before asking for an investigation and having the story in the media.

We're all used to these "centrist" / "just asking questions" types and how they only crawl out of their holes to play devil's advocate for fascists, it's tired.

There's not really a "should" here, necessarily. I think we all need to do what we reasonably can. What you're saying is true and important to remember, and a reflection of how intertwined our economies have become, but if this trend of rising tensions continues then all of that might be on the table.

At some point we may need to graduate from individual action and voting with our wallets to actual state level intervention, like asset seizure and nationalisation of certain companies or industries.

I'm pushing myself to do the most I can accommodate in my life individually, and I'm fairly well off and can afford to take financial hits in service of this, but not everyone can do that on a personal level. Canadian economic diversity is fairly poor and enriching the same handful of Canadian capitalists isn't great either, but it's the lesser evil right now I think.

Unsurprisingly with a handle like mine I'm down to eventually dismantle capitalism entirely, and at least we'll be keeping more of our labour surplus in our domestic economy.

but surely we have to go back to the Sassanids to find an analogue for current events

turns out an ideology that ignores real problems and always seeks out groups to villainize isn't a good way to make long term friends

I hope your country survives people like you

Nearly every American company we interact with employs Canadians, if you don't have the stomach for this you're not going to do well in these next years.

We should use tariff revenues as well as wealth taxes and other means of economic redistribution to protect Canadian workers but we absolutely must go after American capitalists. Do you think American companies care about their workers? Regardless of nationality?

Every Canadian employed by an American is providing more profit to that American than they're costing, that's the nature of capitalism. They employ us out of convenience or because we're cheaper to employ

they'll have hell on their hands after an invasion, good luck defending that border or stopping the insurgency with so much wilderness.

it would be Vietnam and Afghanistan rolled into one, but with easy strikes into their homeland.

Let them try it, we will spur the collapse of their fascist empire
