We banned generative AI over at !buycanadian@lemmy.ca, I think !canada@lemmy.ca should do the same.

Hello!

Just as a heads up, going forwards, AI-generated images and articles will no longer be tolerated on this community.

The reason being that AI image generation has been used to replace human artists, and the resulting image often feature some sort of uncanny valley body horror, as seen here.

Ethically-trained GPTs can be used for good, but image generation does not have a purpose beyond either tricking people or replacing human artists, and AI-generated articles are not fact-checked and can contain hallucinations.

This post will stay up as it was created before the rules were amended.

Cheers!

They clearly haven't, thus far. Canada does tariff some US goods, my understanding is that Costco still sells them regardless.

I agree, OP's post history and lack of interaction is hella sus.

It's also off-topic here as it does not encourage anyone to buy Canadian, rather I feel like it hopes to trick people into supporting an American company who sells American goods.

I'm sorry, I honestly don't see how an American giant who removed Canadian products from their American shelves without removing American products from their Canadian shelves has anything to do with "buying Canadian".

The letter is a nice thought, but truthfully, Costco is an American company with American interests. It's nice that they treat their employees well, but that doesn't make them more aligned with Canadian needs.

"Everyone has been amazing and nice and kind"

Yeah now try that with a different skin tone or accent.

Perhaps just an addendum explaining that profit-driven Canadian news outlets are not included here due to the risk of being swayed by American interests.

Fair enough, Winnipeg Free Press is a large Canadian media org, but they are indeed for profit and potentially biased that way.

Why is Winnipeg Free Press missing?

It's not really their business, most consumers ask for dairy milk in their milk chocolate.

There is some very good vegan chocolate out there that isn't Lindt.

90% is good, not my favourite but I'll have it every so often!
