Someone replied to their post, with arguments and explanations I personally think are pretty well though out.

In my opinion, most people won't get confused by the 'old' interface being at a different subdomain, especially as Reddit did it themselves (apparently they had new.reddit.com which hosted an older redesign than reddit.com, like wtf!?? But somehow people understood that distinction, so this should be fine) Then again, I could be too much of a nerd and overestimating people :P (insert relevent xkcd here)

btw, does sopuli.xyz have the mlmym interface?

Maybe alongside the modern UIs, you could include a line about the mlmym interfaces.

Ah, your original message does not make this clear. In fact, since the post is about Funkwhale, it seems like your talking shit about the platform, even though its not apparent what 'shit' refers to.

While I don't use mbin/kbin, thank you for your work. More software means more decentralization, which is healthy. The fediverse is a better place with you in it :)

  • Do you want microblogging alongside regular forums?
    • YES: Choose mbin.
    • NO:
      • Do you want a native app?
        • YES: Choose Lemmy... for now.
        • NO: Choose PieFed.

I've been very interested in PieFed and kept a close watch on it; the only reason I'm on Lemmy is the lack of a stable API on PieFed (which means no apps). Here are some of the reasons I believe PieFed is superior than Lemmy:

  • More lightweight to host; imo makes it "more decentralized" since the requirements to self-host are less and thus available to more people.
  • New and innovative features
  • Responsive developer
  • PieFed is opinionated to foster a positive environment. The platform itself is designed in some places to be unattractive to tankies, nazis, trolls, transphobics, etc.
  • I don't believe in seperation of the art from the artist. The artist somehow always profits from the art, be it donations, paywalls, etc. The developers of Lemmy are tankies, and one of them is a transphobe.

Good feature, I don't see any problems.

  1. Quotes are controversial because Twitter people used it to foster toxicity. However, on Mastodon, we have actually active mods. Ideally, you should be self-hosting your own instance anyways and be your own mod.

  2. Also, it seems very well implemented, much better than on Twitter: Mastodon says it will allow users to control whether their posts can be quoted. Also, users will be notified if someone quotes them, and they’ll be able to withdraw their post from the quoted context at any time.

  3. Most importantly, Mastodon has an active developer who responds to feedback, and PULL REQUESTS, ISSUE TRACKERS, AND GITHUB DISCUSSIONS exist!

  4. If you still completely disagree with this decision, fork the project, create a patch, and start your own server with the patched Mastodon!
