Everything the Americans said about TikTok and more can be said about Twitter/X’s dangerous role in Canada.

Surcharge part of initial retaliatory measures that will remain in place until U.S. tariffs are removed for good

Renters in Manitoba are experiencing astronomical rent hikes above the provincial allowable rent increase guidelines – and it’s completely legal. In 2022, the average rent increase was 9.8%, but documented increases have been as high as 30%, 50% and 126% during the affordability crisis. Renters, meanwhile, will tell you that, yes, water is wet. And landlords have been allowed to work this system for years.

Renters need stronger rent regulations to stop landlords from using AGIs as a loophole to hike rents. We need fairness for tenants.

Donald Trump is a troll trying to own the libs and get under our skin. Let’s ignore him and get on with the task of peace, order and good government.

U.S. President Donald Trump is keeping new tariffs in place on Mexico, Canada and China to pressure them to block the flow of the deadly opioid fentanyl into the United States, top White House economic officials said Sunday.

"If fentanyl ends, I think these [tariffs] will come off,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told NBC’s “Meet the Press” show.

“But if fentanyl does not end, or he's uncertain about it, he will stay this way until he is comfortable,” he said. "This is black and white. You got to save American lives."

Trump last week issued a string of whip-sawing tariff decisions that plunged the three major U.S. stock market indexes and roiled relations with Canada and Mexico, which are long-time U.S. allies and its closest neighbors, as well as its two biggest trading partners.

U.S. Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat, did his best to make “good trouble” during President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress since taking office in January.

Brandishing his cane, the Lone Star septuagenarian rose from his seat in the U.S. House chamber and challenged Trump’s claim that he has a sweeping mandate to enact the tidal wave of changes his Republican administration has unleashed within the federal government.

Green stood alone, with his Democratic colleagues content to sit silent and hold quaint church fan signs with words that called the president a liar and criticized billionaire bureaucrat Elon Musk.

Two recent school shootings are highlighting what extremism researchers see as a growing — and poorly understood — trend among young people who embrace mass violence.

  • Wealthy Americans live longer than the working class. People living in the top 1% of counties ranked by median household income live an average of 84.3 years, while people living in the bottom 50% of counties ranked by median household income live an average of 77.4 years – a difference of 7 years.
  • Rural counties face the greatest disparities. Urban and suburban counties with a median household income of $100,000 have an average life expectancy of 81.6 years, while small rural counties with a median household income of $30,000 have an average life expectancy of 71.7 years – a 10-year gap.
  • Geographic disparities persist. In Loudoun County, Virginia, the highest-earning county in the U.S., life expectancy is 84 years. Just 350 miles away, in McDowell County, West Virginia, one of the lowest-earning counties in the U.S., the life expectancy is 69 years – a 15-year difference.
  • Higher incomes translate to longer lives. Among rural counties, a $10,000 increase in median annual household income is associated with an additional 2.6 years of life expectancy. Among lower- and lower-middle income populations in urban and suburban counties, the same income increase is associated with a 2.1-year gain in life expectancy.

More than 10,000 people turned out for a rally with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt), in Warren as part of his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

"By executing Brad Sigmon, South Carolina has also executed the possibility of redemption," said one critic. "Our state is declaring that no matter what you do to make up for your wrongdoing, we reserve the right to kill you."

Trump’s threats to Canada are not idle boasts and shouldn’t be taken as such. They call for a whole of society response.

The Trump administration rules out security guarantees for Ukraine – as did the Biden administration. Europeans and Ukrainians need to give up hope that this stance might change. Efforts to align Kyiv, Washington and European capitals on other points would be better placed.

On windows you got a enterprise or LTS equivalent to get the important updates.

You don't get that on Lemmy.

That is really bad for the Lemmy instances.

Everyone should care?

If a post violates community rules, you can report it, which will help bring it to their attention more-quickly.

I report some posts and they never get a mod action.

You could volunteer to moderate a community that you feel is undermoderated, which will help decrease the load on the existing moderators.

Would you trust a 1 week account to moderate any community? Simply that is not something feasible for me.

As I said before, I did not get anything from doing good and I only lost by doing it.

Evil society exists, if the good has to be done, then why should I be the one to do it?

I spent my current age doing good and that earned me zero returns and some losses and I know a lot of people who had a similar experience to me.

No one even feels greatful for the good I do.

Respectfully your argument does not hold up for me.

What guarantee that if they were in my own shoes they wouldn't fuck me up?

Why not focus on my benefit regardless of its effect on the world?

Why care about a society that does not care about me?

I feel that The Platform movie answer exactly this question, everyone care only about himself.
