I was like you; I thought that I hated work and was going to spend my life doing stuff I hated.

When I did the tests in the book I was shocked to find I had talents I'd never realized.

I had never even considered the job I ended up liking.

There are all kinds of jobs out there that you've never heard of.

[off topic?] Joke from the times of troubles in Ireland.

American reporter is sent to Belfast in 1972. She decides to do a 'man in the street' interview to get things started.

She spots a happy looking fellow sauntering down the road. He's happy to talk. She asks about the violence and he brushes it all off.

"Belfast is as safe as any other big city. Sure, there's a bit of bother here and there, but all in all it's a fine place."

She asks him what he does for a living?

"I'm a tailgunner on a bread truck."

Try and find a job you don't hate.

I lucked into a book called 'Discover What You Are Best At.'

Turns out, when you aren't miserable about going to work, a lot of your other problems vanish.

Atomic bombs are also tools with no moral compass of their own.

iirc there's a bit in the book "Stranger In A Strange Land" where the hero's mentor does an essay about how people are reading too much news and worrying about countries they have no business caring about.

Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle" has a weekly white supremist hate magazine.

Roast chicken.

Cook a bird on Sunday afternoon and pick on the remains all week.

[off topic?]

Since you mentioned fiber, I decided to give a plug for wheat germ.

Scary book written in 1970 has proved to be incredibly prescient.

"Future Shock" by Alvin Toffler predicted that as the Digital Age moved forward, a lot of people would begin to lose their minds because they couldn't/wouldn't keep up with all the changes.

It's easy for bad people to offer an easy solution to people who have no idea how to handle it.

America wasn't great, it was just a lot cheaper to live in.

The economy tanked when Nixon kept paying for the Vietnam War by printing money without raising taxes. That and the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973 crashed the American Dream. Jimmy Carter hired Paul Volker to fix things. Jimmy got kicked out before the plan started kicking in and Reagan got the credit. Then Ronnie turned the money spigot on extra high for the rich and that's how it all went to hell.
