How has it not been abundantly fucking clear that they have zero plans to let go of power, whether it's Trump in charge or not? They wouldn't be doing any shit like this if they even had a whiff of Democrats coming back into power and using these same shenanigans to clean up the government and shut down places like FOX News.

God damn. You just made me realize one thing. Yes the republicans are THE problem, but democrats are like an accomplice. We're having these problems because democrats are just enabling the republicans. Let's say AOC gets elected in 2028.
If she comes in, guns blazing, and puts trump over her knee and spanks his ass red, then the rest of his chronies will wonder if they're next.
But if she comes in, gets on her knees and blows him, then they know nothing needs to change, and they should go further. Why not? Even when they lose power they face no consequences.
We need a candidate who shows up to the 2028 debates in July, gets asked what they would do about the corruption in government, and IMMEDIATELY pulls a pistol out, and shoots trump.

You just realised that now? This is what others have been saying for a long time! As an outsider looking at American politics, the Democratic party is the opposite cheek of the same ass, in which the other cheek is the Republican party. It's unbelievable that many Americans refuse to see this. I get that the US has first past the post and has to vote for "lesser evil", but other countries also have the same system, and yet these countries have third parties gaining seats and influencing policies massively. Heck, even one hundred years ago, third parties are getting elected in Congress and Senate.
Why are third parties aren't getting elected anymore? The American public has been pacified by corporate mass media to think within a narrow and curated worldview. To quote Noam Chomsky: the smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum. Americans have been conditioned to think it's only liberals versus conservatives, and Democrats versus Republicans. Meanwhile, both parties are in the pocket of the oligarchs.
It's good that more and more Americans have been waking up, in an unironic sense, to think outside the corporate narrative, because the No Kings protests is a start for the mass mobilisation and activism. But this is useless if the movement does not translate to substantive electoral changes. Even many Americans still assume that the next presidential election will be establishment Democrats versus the far right Republican. And those who make assumption repeat the Democratic party thought terminating cliché of "vote for lesser evil" and "perfect is the enemy of good". That said, it is good that many Americans gradually turning away from the corporate establishment worldview, and starting to become more politically active by now discussing to primary progressives into power to circumvent the first past the post system.

I'm so, so curious to see what they're going to pull in September, October, and November of next year for midterms. I agree there's no way Thiel, Musk, Miller, Vought, Bannon, Trump, etc. are going to risk going to prison once Democrats win every race. They're planning to do... something.
Agreed. And cornered animals are the most dangerous. I fully expect some extremely illegal things to take place this spring. Ramping up attacks on both American cities and using ICE to ratchet up as much pressure on the population as they can to illicit violent retaliation while attacking (presumed) innocent fishermen in international waters. They need civil unrest or the perception of a threat to prevent elections and by god they're going to get one, even if they have to use their own supporters to start it!
Relax till this November. We will see what happens. After that. If shit goes sideways. Do what’s necessary. But until then. Let’s chill. Go to the gym. Get in shape. Be ready to be physical if shit does go sideways but also get in shape for your own well being.

God damn universe nagging me, even on Lemmy! What do you want from me??? I pushed myself into oblivion doing 4 hours of gym every day for 7 months. In that time only lost 20lbs. Then had a mental breakdown, missed 2 weeks, and gained 30lbs even though I wasn't eating differently. Just not going to the gym.
So I push my body through hell, give up any kind of social life. In the gym every day at 1 am until dawn. And 8 months later lost ground on the scale, and you expect me not to be dejected??? Fuck.

You're going to see Republicans say, nakedly, and without a shred of shame that these agencies exist to serve the interests of the Republican Party first and foremost. The trying-to-get-Kimmel-Fired thing was a pure partisan stunt. It wasn't on strong legal footing or with any compelling national interest. It was just a brick Trump's guys could throw through ABC's window in the middle of a national pissing contest.
The takeaway from this, by Democrats, is going to be "This is bad because it hurt a Big Beautiful Business and was mean to a rich guy who smiles at me from the TV". And the conclusion is going to be "The FCC is too powerful, we need to rein it in and let the free market flourish".
And while guys like Carr continue to look for more bricks to throw through more windows, Democrats are going to run on television and promise that when they're in charge stuff like this won't happen ever again.
And in four years (God willing) its President Pete Buttigieg in charge. Bari Weiss has given Steven Crowder the Colbert spot on Late Night. Crowder goes on TV and says "Pete Buttigieg is a f-got and I'll invite the person who puts a bullet through his head on my show". And the Dems. Will. Do. Nothing. Because they don't want anyone to claim they are like Trump's FCC guy.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian Rights Organization will make a Kickstarter for some 14-year-old who threw a rock at a tank and got his arm blown off. And the FCC will subpoena the organizer's address, pass it off to DHS, and have ICE kick in his teeth and drag him off to El Salvador's Mega-Prison Muslim Detention Wing.

Translation: "I'm Trump's bitch.."
Agency is no longer independent if I’m required to be fair to the democrats.
He could have at least waited until SCOTUS made it official, as they seem so intent on doing.
