MODERATORS
Finally ran out of our stock of laundry and dishwashing supplies. Replaced all the made in US products with Canadian. Did a LOT of reading and settled with these products, both for their country of origin and for a more natural product. Will see how they do on softened well water. If we like them then we can start buying each in bulk amounts.
Nellie’s Laundry Soda (Canadian)
Nellie’s Oxygen Brightener (Canadian)
Unscented Company Dish Tabs (Canadian company, but made in France)
Elo’s Citric Acid powder (Canadian) for laundry rinse/softener and for making dishwasher rinse aid.
Are the ingredients Canadian? You would be surprised that most of the base ingredients for products comes from overseas.
Probably not. If the prices are similar, we change if P&G takes the margin or not. The other option is to buy closer from the source but that's even more difficult.

Unscented Company stuff seems pretty good. My wife became very sensitive to fragranced soaps, cleansers etc and I'm very glad these products are available; we primarily use their liquid dish/hand soap.
Those are next on our list.

Got a box of Nellie's dishwasher powder.
Does it work for you? I wasn’t sure as the powder does not have any enzymes for breaking down fat/starch. The cubes do though.
I didn't realize that but I've been using it for a while and it works fine for me. I make sure to preheat my faucet since my hot water takes forever.

Oh really? I assumed it does. So far it's been alright. Haven't noticed degradation in performance compared to the Cascades pods recommended by the washing machine. I'll check the Nellie's cubes though.
I personally prefer making my own stuff, they typically do so much better than store bought stuff.
I wasn't aware citric acid was used that way. I might have to give it a try. How and how much do you use?
I keep it around for other purposes, like canning. I know it's used in some water softening systems as an alternative to salt based softeners, so I guess that's why it's used as a fabric softener and for the dishwasher.
We use one tablespoon per load of laundry. Just put the powder directly in the fabric softener dispenser. Laundry rinses are the new big thing, basically doing what all the commercial laundry use, they neutralize any remaining detergent in the fabrics. If you google citric acid laundry rinse you will find lots of info. Also works well as a dishwasher rinse aid. I mix two tablespoons in 100ml of hot water, let cool and add to the dispenser. Again, Google is your friend here.
I use vinegar personally because it's easier for me to make at home. Same concept and I like the results so far.
Been using the laundry soap for a couple of years and love it. I love that you only need a small amount, saving on packaging and shipping.
