Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Oh good, I can continue not buying EA games.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 79 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you still buy EA games at this point you better not tell anyone because you’re a braindead fuckwit for sending Saudis your money

[–] poVoq@slrpnk.net 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I have bad news for you if you drive a non-electric car 😏

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 64 points 23 hours ago (9 children)

Some people have no choice in what kind of car they can afford to drive.

We all have a very easy choice when it comes to choosing your video games

And the rest is Jared Kushner. Enjoy that shit sandwich.

EA was already shit, but somehow they found bread made from shit and built a whole sandwich.

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 32 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

EA games suck nowadays anyway; this was just a buyout for shareholders and founders.

[–] YesButActuallyMaybe@lemmy.ca 3 points 19 hours ago (6 children)

Remind me: when was this not the case? I never in my life heard anyone ever say ‘oh great, it’s an EA game’

[–] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 15 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

dead space, mirrors edge, original skate

[–] yggstyle@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

Just listed some of my favorites right there. ME was way ahead of it's time. Banger game.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

93 was my jam.

But yeah, I'd play that.

[–] utjebe@reddthat.com 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Probably games around year 2000. Not so much recycling back then.

[–] pinheadednightmare@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

Yep, their early days were bad ass… pretty much like any company that starts out before they become corporate cock suckers

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Back in the late 80s they were pretty legit.

Does "It takes two" count as an EA game?

Yeah the kushner share is a bribe to bypass regulatory oversight, didn't you know?

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Do they need Kushner for that? They done a pretty good job funneling money to Him over the last 8 years.

Boy EA really hit rock bottom and just kept on a-diggin til they struck oil didn't they.

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Effectively all it? That's 93.4%, that's more than 90%, and almost 95%, which is almost 100%, which would be all of it!

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

This guy maths.

[–] motor_spirit@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But they're not equal, hence the phrasing

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

They are saying it’s redundant, and therefore unnecessary.

[–] nogooduser@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Yeah but it isn’t really redundant (even if it could have been worded better). Someone might believe that the other shareholders have some say in how the company operates when they won’t.

So, as far as control over the company is concerned, the Saudis have 100% control even though they don’t have 100% of the shares.

The buyout has effectively already gone through, and as the price has been decided, any money you give to them is directly going to saudi arabia, as they will get that new value.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

sounds like a perfect match for EA

[–] acme401@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I deleted my account, intentionally losing access to all my games. Fuck EA. I will not be associated with murders.

[–] Krompus@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

EA (Respawn) peaked at Titanfall 2 and hasn't released anything good since. I set them to Ignore on Steam a few years ago.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Jedi Fallen Order was good though (also Respawn).

[–] Krompus@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Yeah Respawn is a good dev, just a shame they got bought by EA and scrapped Titanfall 3.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 5 points 22 hours ago

And even then they massively fucked up by ignoring all the ddosing for years. It gave us Northstar but it's a paid fucking game, come on man.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Does EA own any other companies/brands that we should be aware of?

[–] moody@lemmings.world 28 points 1 day ago

Yes, they've been buying up smaller studios for decades and shutting them down.

There's an entire wikipedia page about it.

[–] DamienGramatacus@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

The only EA franchise I've cared about in the last 15 years was Mirrors Edge. Would love another but I've long given up hope on that.

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Unfortunately they have an exclusive publishing deal with the guys who made it takes two and split fiction.

We are all children of ~~jesus~~ petro states.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 23 hours ago

I mean it's not like they can make it any worse.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Dice - mirrors edge, battlefield

Popcap - tons of mobile games

Respawn - Alex legends, Titanfall (ex call of duty developers)

Codemasters - lots of racing games

And the worst thing is, they probably still won't be as self-destructively greedy as they were before.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 38 minutes ago (1 children)

Not a loss for me. I liked them when they were still good, on C64 and Amiga. But now? Good riddance. May the sheiks have fun with it.
