Every morning I scroll through memes and they are all the same. I just wonder why does this one get so many up votes. I don't get why it's so popular.

German humour, you wouldn’t get it.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 40 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

We need to mock the British more, they don't get anywhere near what they deserve.

[–] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 10 points 14 hours ago

Fully agree.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 5 points 12 hours ago

We do, it’s just it’s less effective when done in English

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 5 points 11 hours ago

Its such bullshit though. No one hates our government more than we do.

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The empire where the sun never sets... except digitally...

Also, make sure you pay your TV licence!

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 4 points 10 hours ago

Having seen the utter shit other countries have on TV, the licence stays.

Did something happen to UKs internet?

[–] King@blackneon.net 59 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (5 children)

UK now requires a lot of websites to age check their users.

What happened is that a lot of websites either had to implement a way to check users ages or block users from UK completely.

A good example here is Imgur which blocked UK users. What inspired this meme for me is this blog post posted on Hacker news.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 15 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Oh man...do they also try to throw a "to protect the kids!"-sticker Onto that destructive bullshit?

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 17 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

That is literally the expressed reason for it. Think of the children. And people are like, "YEAH PROTECT THE CHILDREN, DISMANTLE ALL CIVIL RIGHTS, WE ARE BEING INVADED BY PEDOPHILES, ONLY WAY TO FIGHT THEM IS TO END DEMOCRACY AND LET CORPORATIONS TAKE OVER!"

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

That is the disgusting part. I mean yeah, pedos are legion and should be dealt with, but all those measures won't gonna do it. Not even remotely.

I'm just so tired of being constantly fed bullshit and lies. We're not all apathic or ignorant goddamit.

Truth is our Politician's are so out of touch with the time.

Chat control for one allows governments to read all chats, but at the same time reading and opening physical mail is still considered illegal.

Same with age verification some of these politicians thing it would work like going to the amusement park and getting your height checked to ride the rollercoaster.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 7 points 14 hours ago

Theres porn on the Internet and we all know kids are incapable of doing something like going to page 2 of Google results.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 12 points 11 hours ago

Meanwhile 4chan ignored it. Got a fine and laughed. Then as far as I can tell, nothing happened. They are not going to pay the fine because why the fuck would they? 4chan still works just fine in the UK, you don't even need a VPN.

[–] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not convinced this is the reason for the Imgur block. They were asked by the UK about how they processed the data for minors at the start of the year. They refused to provide it, and were then fined. When the age check was implemented I think they used that as an excuse to block the UK, so they "weren't operating in it" and didn't need to answer the questions.

The UK gov disagrees with that and is planning more legal action iirc.

If they had done the block without that law, people would be asking why they were not revealing how they process data of minors.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 4 points 11 hours ago

Should just ignore all messages from the UK. 4chan still works here and they are refusing to pay the fine.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

oOOH they LIKE that! "How old are you child? Are you 7? 8? 9? Because if you're 18 we are not interested. There is no way this can backfire, see, come here why don't you give me your data and your mobile phone number. Are you old enough to have a government ID yet? No? Goood, goood."

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Sign in with Facebook is probably a huge hit /s

[–] HexesofVexes@lemmy.world 24 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Imgur blocking is a bit of a pain - half the mods in steam are missing images in their description.

The online safety act also means we get to submit ID to view anything construed as "adult". Very "av you got a loiscencse for that" these days without a VPN.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 11 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Very soon, you'll need a VPN loicence.

[–] HexesofVexes@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Yep, because it was never about protecting the children ;)

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 10 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I FEEL SO MUCH GOD DAMNED SAFER THANK GOD THAT THIS ENDED PEDOPHILIA AND TERRORISM SUCH A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR THAT

[–] HexesofVexes@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

I COMPLETELY AGREE - THIS ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Don’t know. No problems for me (UK).

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 1 points 14 hours ago

Same here. No idea what anyone is talking about.

[–] foofiepie@lemmy.world 19 points 12 hours ago

What do you mean old chap?

I’m Dutch today.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 10 points 15 hours ago

The one time it doesnt say "content not available in your region"

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Coming to America. I tried to watch porn and it was blocked in Virginia. I'm in Maryland

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 hours ago

Don’t worry. It’s just a couple of bots arguing with each other or an ad. You aren’t missing much.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 12 hours ago

Just get a VP.... ooooooooooooooh....

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 1 points 21 minutes ago

Unfun fact: a good part of the internet goes down every time there's a football match in Spain, because the government gave a football league access to the national internet blocklist to stop piracy or smth and they put the entirety of Cloudflare on there
