Showerthoughts
A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
When you borrow $1M from the bank, it’s your problem. When you borrow $100M, it’s the bank’s problem.
Capitalize profits
Socialize expenses
Same attitude as a cancer.
Capitalize on all the resources available from the blood vessels. Socialise the responsibility of recycling waste products from cancerous cells whose existence is to be a net detriment on the whole organism.
Billionaires = oligarchs = cancer. Quick maffs.
And you’ll pay him to do it.
Who do you think you're stealing it from? The bank?
Few years ago, people literally had to rob the bank for their own money here. Thing was, when you went to the bank and you asked for your money and they didn’t give it to you, they were technically breaking the law, and you brandishing a weapon to while asking for something that is legally yours is not a particular crime. The thought of threatening a bank employee whose job was to be a verbal punching bag for an evil financial system wasn’t appealing to many people, and most people didn’t have enough in there for it to be worth it, so it wasn’t as common as the media made it out to be.
A lot of “robbers” used obviously fake “weapons” and that did work - while also giving plausible deniability towards the law (“I didn’t really make a threat”) and for the employee (“I was being threatened and complied” without actually being in danger).
You’d think our sordid history with capitalism would instill a lesson or two in our society but vapid “entrepreneur” culture and socio-economic pick-me-ism are at an all time high here and every day I am drawn more to the mountain hermit life and this is not a joke.
Funny thing is, those mega-rich fucks would absolutely walk into bank and withdraw YOUR money without a second thought.
They are stealing from us all the time.
Take your money out the bank...
Take your money out the bank...
Take your money out the bank...
Take your money out the..... BAAAAAAAAAANK!
I feel nervous leaving a store with a backpack without buying anything.
I legit didn't even touch anything lol
I agree with the trillionaire and billionaire comments, but I don't understand why taking your money makes you feel like you're stealing?
It's like making a batch of cookies, putting them in a tin, later going back and taking some cookies out of the tin to eat.
Not sure. Probably because its so easy to walk in and just take money out i feel like im gonna get caught for something bad that I didnt actually do. It feels like it would be ridiculously easy to steal since you juat say your name and theye give you money
I guess it's the same feeling of walking out of the grocery store without buying anything and I'd feel like I have to act normal so I won't get caught doing.... nothing in particular
10000% yes i have that as well
I'd they are letting you take money out of your account by only giving your name, you need to get a new bank. They need to be verifying your identity somehow.
Sometime they ask for a driver license. But those are notoriously easy to fake
Sometimes? I wouldn't worry about your unease in walking out of your bank with your money, I'd worry about having your money in that bank where they apparently give money out to anyone.
Do you not have to insert/tap your card and enter a pin or something?
How would they even know what account to take it out of otherwise?
Just name
I may need to visit your bank to make some withdrawals lol
"Hello my name is Bridgeen Joyer and i would like to empty my account pls"
Are you well known to them?
Do you give them your account number or a card or bankbook or a check?
Or maybe you carry a gun?
Except you also have to have your card/phone and know your pin. It's actually one of the hardest places to steal from.
I have an uncle who used to do security for a major department store. This was over 40 years ago. They had an issue where entire racks of clothes were going missing. One time it was even two complete pallets, not even unpacked yet, they were received and then just missing. After the investigation they discovered a guy had clothes that looked similar to their uniform walked in confidently, released the locks on the wheels of the rack, rolled it into the back, another guy pulled up in a van, they put the whole rack in the back and drive off. He kinda looked like he belonged so no one questioned him.
The pallets, again same guy just walked into back room found a forklift, picked them up, loaded them into a rental truck and drove off.
Stealing is easy, it's not getting greedy and being able to not get caught is the issue.
Ive never given a pin at a bank.
Really? When I go to the bank they have a card machine there, insert card, enter pin, teller does order and if it's over $1000 require a state issue id also...
Do you struggle to shop in physical stores? Because this sounds like an anxiety symptom
Seems a bit too easy if that's all you're doing without any verification. If they're checking that you are who you say you are, then it's your money.
Probably because its so easy to walk in and just take money out i feel like im gonna get caught for something bad that I didnt actually do.
this part made me realize the reason I have the feeling is money laundering laws, background checks and legal takeout limits
Because of social anxiety, I am more nervous about dealing with another human being at checkout actually paying for my stuff than when I go in specifically to steal from the megacorp.
Do we have a trillionaire?
Only if you count companies as people. For now at least
Yah I suppose its just as preposterous that we have multiple trillion dollar valuations for any fucking single entity. Thank god they are defined as a person under Citizens United and can contribute to the democratic process. /s
Soon, unfortunately.
We will as soon as Elon Musk turns Tesla around and earns his contractual trillion dollar payout as a reward!
