Well turning off worked, but 27 minutes later the emergency services turned me back on.

Chances are you're making a much bigger deal about the situation than it realistically is. The consequences for failing to meet expectations are probably not as bad as you're imagining. Taking a step back to look at the situation holistically can sometimes break you out of the spiral
Yes, or accepting that you are gonna fail, that it may be uncomfortable, and realising that life will go on, or that it doesn't matter that much anyways.
My therapist specialised in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, so we started out by trying to identifying things in my life that I was overreacting to. It turned out I was dealing with Real Shit, and remarkably chill under the circumstances. We had to abandon the CBT approach.
That was still helpful though. By asking the question, it validated my behaviour, so I didn't doubt myself as much going forward. It helped me make some big life changes.
