Peter Thiel is the co-founder of PayPal, and his partner was the vice president of BlackRock at some point. The plot thickens.

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 92 points 1 day ago (1 children)

More significantly, he’s one of the key instigators and powers behind the current us government. Explicitly wants to create a technocratic dictatorship.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

technocratic dictatorship.

don't use technocratic in that way

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Why? It's the definition of what he wants to do in a system that lets the money guy call himself CTO.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technocracy

A technocracy is a model of governance wherein decision-makers are chosen for office based on their technical expertise and background. A technocracy differs from a traditional democracy in that individuals selected to a leadership role are chosen through a process that emphasizes their relevant skills and proven performance, as opposed to whether or not they fit the majority interests of a popular vote.

a system that lets the money guy call himself CTO.

is probably more of an oligarchy or some other thing about rich people having power; technocracy is about getting people who know their shit run stuff that they know about

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 5 points 21 hours ago

That was the justification for monarchy too

It's like all absolutist heirarchy is just the same nepotistic shit over and over and over

[–] kirk781@discuss.tchncs.de 43 points 1 day ago

He is also one of the Co founders of Palantir, quite a notorious company.

Peter Thiel recently put on a four talk series, sponsored by a “Christian” organization, where he suggested that anti-AI people are the Antichrist.

[–] Tryenjer@lemmy.world 18 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

If I were religious, I'd bet that he's the Antichrist.

In short:

Palantir CEO, Alex Karp.

And the owner is even more unhinged than that.

In the UK, Palantir is used in the NHS.

Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal, owner of the military technology companies Palantir and Anduril, an early investor in Facebook, the man who has openly declared since the 2000s that democracy is a mistake and that he wants to destroy the United States and European countries to establish city-states, each governed by a different corporation (fiefdoms), on our ruins, has always chosen his projects based on a clear political vision. Unlike other businessmen, Thiel is more of an activist than an investor. For example, PayPal was initially intended as an alternative to the American banking system to undermine and eventually overthrow the government; this is what attracted Thiel's attention to the project in the first place. Palantir, it seems to me, is no different.

The fact that JD Vance, a creature of Peter's, is Vice-President clearly demonstrates the power of influence he has achieved to introduce his beliefs into the White House policies.

And by the way, keep an eye on this new meeting between Trump and Putin. Since the 90s, we've been aware of the Russian elites' declared ambitions,

Wait. Did dude read Snowcrash and think "yeah, that future, that's my utopia!"?

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 23 hours ago

I feel better about that -$20 balance I had and never paid back on my (now perma'd for it) PayPal account years ago.

The irony is that THIS is the deep state the fuckers have been looking for. Just the the 2nd amendment folks though, their rhetoric is just that, rhetoric and was NEVER going to lead to the solutions they preached.

The only value that side shares is bootlicking authority.

[–] VeryInterestingTable@jlai.lu 9 points 19 hours ago

Let's get rid of the deep state!

~Puts deep state in place instead.

See there really is a deep state!

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 54 points 1 day ago

I mean, that’s why people still have a hard time believing it

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago

Truth is ugly. Fiction is neat and tidy.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago (3 children)

If it were fiction, at some point Peter Thiel would use computers to summon demons, for military purposes.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is how I know religion is crap. At some point, someone would have made a sacrifice for laser eyes.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Lasik did make my vision super sharp tbf, and all I had to sacrifice was a couple grand

They mix the genres of Lovecraftian horror, spy thriller, science fiction, and workplace humour.

Found what I'm gonna read next.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Magic is real, and the idea behind it makes enough sense to run with!

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

Holy shit, a western author ripped off Shin Megami Tensei.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 day ago (4 children)

There's new Epstein files released? I block a shitload of words in post names on lemmy

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah someone's been leaking emails

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

No, the House released 20,000 new documents. You can get them yourself off a government site.

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Including an unredacted version of emails that had been leaked (which prompted this release) with the victim redacted. But you know, the reason they didn't release anything else before was to protect the victims... until it's better for Trump if they do.

Trump gave Bill Clinton a BJ. That one is probably the biggest surprise

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago

Not if you'd read my fanfic.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Wouldn't surprise me, Clinton likes big women.

Why would Clancy write anything that isn't in full support of conservative idealogy?

[–] Tangent5280@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Spill the tea on Tom Clancy pls

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 9 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Clancy was a staunch conservative. Dedicated several of his books to notable conservative politicans such as Ronald Reagan. He supported the NRA (yes I understand the NRA has changed form over the years but I don't really care) and he opposed abortion.

He praised Bush for being a 'good guy', granted he did challenge the justifications for the Iraq War (I also don't really care about a broken clock managing to be right).

I haven't read any of his novels for a very long time, but what I remember is that amongst the tech and spy stuff there is stuff that sounds like very clear RW propaganda (to me).

Granted, this is the first time I've thought about Clancy in years outside of conversations with my (you might have guessed it) conservative coworker. I don't really know much about the man other than he was definitely conservative. I think you could probably make the argument that he was center right, and that the center right from the 60's is very different than the center right of today. Draw your own conclusions.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

Remember when they said something about pedophiles under pizza place in Washington and said it was Hilary or something

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago

Feels more like a Dan Brown novel, tbh.

[–] Devjavu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tom Clancy didn't write that?

[–] Jerkface@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I mean, he probably did at some point.
