When you replicate a model, the layer lines are a style choice. The most appreciated replicated Benchys are the "authentic" ones that still have hull lines and VFAs.

And then there's his own full scale solar sail lightship. He really liked to tinker.
Sisko had an engineering background. After all, he was a part of the team that developed the Defiant class ship.

Picard was an anthropologist.
Kirk manned phaser banks.
Picard was a helmsman.
I always assumed he was involved in some sort of supervisory role but he this makes a lot of sense. My new headcannon is that he's the reason they stuffed such an overpowered engine in it because he wanted to see if it was possible.
Iirc, he was the project manager. The real engineers probably let him fool with interior lighting to keep him happy and away from critical systems….
They weren’t entirely successful.
He might have been an engineer unlucky enough to be promoted to project manager

Imagine having a replicator and still choosing to spend hours gluing tiny plastic bits together. Some things just hit different when you make 'em yourself, I guess. And thank god for that.
Yup it's about seeing something come together in your hands. Slowly.
People would absolutely replicate their miniature armies still in the sprues
Of course, how else would you get YouTube videos of people satisfyingly clipping the pieces from the sprues!
