Holy crap, it's real. Link. I thought this must be satire.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 232 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Her argument is that more people will move to red states as a result. I hate to break it to her, but increased population density is almost guaranteed to make states turn blue.

So by winning, Democrats are actually losing, making red states turn blue, so Democrats are winning. Suck it, commies!

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 98 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Moving from blue to red again was a shock, I sure miss the quality of public services. This place is falling apart unless you live in the richest suburbs.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 78 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Moving from red to blue was a shock. Did you know blue states will actually attempt to improve citizens lives?

[–] PKscope@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I live in Bumfuck, WV. Quite possibly the stupidest state in the Union. Our elected representation perfectly encapsulates the constituents of the state. Moronic, incompetent, and completely unwilling to incite change for a more prosperous future.

I fucking hate it here. I can't wait to be able to move.

I moved from blue to purple, then red, then redder. It's been an adventure.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 22 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I went Michigan, Illinois, Texas, Minnesota, Texas. That last jump was a hard transition. Frankly, I hope we get invaded by Mexico because there's no other way to fix the state government at this point.

Isn’t it conservatives that are leaving blue states? I know urban centers tend to be more left leaning but I don’t think those people will quickly change their views just from moving. Maybe their kids?

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Independent of left and right, a higher population density naturally results in increased support for public services, which the right has decided to firmly establish themselves as being against.

Plus there's the added benefit of prejudice and racism decreasing in a more diverse community. (at least on a personal level)

She doesn't specifically mention conservatives moving. Her argument seemed to be that everyone will flee the socialist hellscape.

By winning they make MAGA folks go away? Sounds like double winning to me...

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 day ago

I think she's totally right republicans, move to Alabama and Florida. You'll be safe there.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 27 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Have socialist policies lifted people out of poverty in Venezuela?

Perhaps if the US lifted its sanctions on Venezuela, maybe they'd find out.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 28 points 1 day ago

Kind of the constant history of socialism. It's almost the same as the arguement against being LGBT.

See being LGBT is bad, I can prove it, look at the suicide rates of LGBT people?

Isn't that because you are bullying them?

Yeah, but I wouldn't bully them if they were straight, so that proves being LGBT is bad for your health!

Leftists and liberals: looks at world - this needs to be better, let's improve it.

Right and conservatives: looks at leftists and liberals - I don't care how or why, but we need to make everybody suffer.

i had to suffer so everyone must suffer

I hope you libs are ready to get OWNED when we shine a spotlight on this young, energetic, ridiculously charismatic mayor proposing new solutions to the problems a big majority of americans are facing!

She's full of crap with her argument about people leaving blue states, but I do have a lingering fear people will burn out before 2026 when it matters a little more. Wins better give us momentum and not complacency.

I still can't believe people lived through the first Trump presidency and decided they wanted another.

[–] unphazed@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you live in America, you know that guy who says shit like, "I'm not racist, but...", then the guy who thinks women are inferior, then the guy who is all out racist, then the Christian guy who's told America's Religion is at stake, then the guy who owns stocks and sees Republicans as his route to eternal wealth, and then ratio that into each American's collective of acquaintances. Then of all the other people left, only 40% of them bother to vote. Harris could have won probably if more registered Dems bothered to vote. But we all look at the bigots and groupthink takes over, as no way those assholes could win anything.

People are very stupid like that. There's almost always a midterms pendulum swing in the opposite direction of the ruling party in this country. It's damn near impossible for people's opinions to more permanently shift on political parties. I think the last time this happened was with the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. That pretty much cemented racist's support for the Republican party in this country ever since.

Actually, I can't argue this. It's true, just probably not in the way Fox intended (I have no idea what they intended.)

Consider that if Mamdani holds up his promises, the old guard Democrats are going to look like the pathetic diet-Republicans that they are and always have been. If his electoral win sparks a wave farther left across the country, and the Overton Window shifts with it, then any Democrats that don't adjust with the times will be outshined by more progressive candidates.

In that way, a "Democrat" win can result in many Democrats losing. But that's a good thing, in my opinion.

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago (6 children)

This is exactly what the idealist types who chirp on about third parties and revolutions should actually want to see.

A slow invasion and replacement of old gaurd DNC members with new life.

Very unfortunately, its very difficult to deliver on the type of instant change people want to see on the federal level given the need for 3 brnaches of government and a super majority in the senate, but at bare minimum I hope this makes people who just don't pay attention to politics realize that it turns out there isn't actually a reason things can't be better, and it turns out you can actually just tax rich people a little bit more to see a huuuuuge benefit to your everyday life.

Well yeah, now they can immediately blame the coming economic collapse on those dirty libs because they're the ones in control now!!!!

It's going to be really hard to recover from this shit. And most people will not understand that the tariff impacts that are just starting and still escalating and such will continue on unless we somehow get other countries to stop immediately... But why would they trust the U.S. after this. Why would someone in say Canada say, "sure I'll buy a bottle of wine from the U.S. now", or why would countries drop reactionary tariffs against the U.S. if they have set up new trade partners they may see as more reliable. Why hurt those new trade deals by believing the U.S. won't try to fuck them over a few years down the line.

He’s saying “good, let them enact their terrible policies and then everyone will see how bad they are, dooming them forever.”

This is a ballsy thing to say while Trump’s policies are currently lighting our future on fire, and when the Democratic platform consistently has more popular policies in it.

They're losing because they're going to get tired of all the winning. Which is why the Republicans losing is actually winning. They're no longer tired of winning. So they can win again.

[–] Shamber@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

I think this headline is aimed for the orange toddler in the white house, since this is his favourite kids channel on TV...now he's happy again and ready with more Tarrifs

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 23 points 1 day ago

Well, that doesn't come across as desperate. /s

[–] Credibly_Human@lemmy.world 19 points 15 hours ago

Fuck, I really hope they don't keep losing this way!!!

I'd be so fucking owned if they did!

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 18 points 1 day ago

I mean, they're only winning in shitholes like New York City and the state of Virginia.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)
