"Woke" = to be aware and concerned about social injustice and discrimination.

If our next leader isn't "woke", then they can fuck right off.

conservative woke= "anything i dont like, usually about races, and gender in places where they shouldnt be including movies, and shows, and jokes."

At this point, I am wonder if pp actually want to lose, because it is much easier to be opposition than actually do the work!

If the CPC loses the election, they'll kick his ass to the curb and pick another leader.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I really really hope he does, for the sake of Canada. The polling looks slightly optimistic but anything can happen in 24 hours

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

I'm hoping he loses his own riding and has to get a real job for the first time in his life.

Fingers crossed that they lose so soundly, the party fractures back into its pre-Alliance components.

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

Does he want to lose, or does he think his best bet at this point is continuing to lean into the Maple MAGA movement, holding that part of his base, and being the beneficiary of some foreign interference via US media/social media?

He’s been looking so tired in his last few one-on-one interviews. I wouldn’t put it past him to purposely swing too far right into the conservative playbook to hose his party before they boot him.

Then he’ll never need top secret clearance. Genius!

"Woke" in university research, as conservatives use the term, means a good chunk of all science, most social science, and pretty much all of the arts and humanities. "Woke" in public services means anything that does not make the lives of the poor, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, non-white people, everyone except wealthy cishet white men, more miserable.

Do we want Canada to capitalize on the opportunity of attracting the USA's smartest scientists and academics, looking forward, supporting its people, defending its independent existence and pursuing what makes life better for everyone, or do we want to send Canada down the same drain of ignorance, unemployment, superstition, disease, regressive thinking and hatred the USA is plunging down, while inviting the USA and Russia to attack us? That's what is at stake in this election.

A healthy society invests in science, arts and the humanities, to better understand the world and be prepared for the future. It invests in public services because it understands that the function of government is to improve the lives of all the people, and that short-term savings are long-term losses. An unhealthy society cuts all of these because in its ignorance and short-sightedness it can't see the use of them, and then it wonders why it isn't doing well and starts looking for scapegoats. Which one do we want to be?

"Woke"? Didn't he get the memo on "DEI" being the new right-wing target?

[–] kbal@fedia.io 17 points 2 days ago

Stupid woke scientists, denying that Jesus made the dinosaurs so that we'd have affordable gasoline.

Facts don't care about your feelings, PP.

Not to mention that DOGE seems more incompetent than anything else, and intentionally evoking that comparison seems kind of stupid.

I know the idea of cutting "wasteful spending" and finding "efficiencies" resonates with conservatives, but the execution of DOGE's mandate has been complete shit and, in some instances, illegal.

I know the idea of cutting “wasteful spending” and finding “efficiencies” resonates with conservatives

It should appeal to everyone. The idea of using a partisan government aligned entity to do it is the repulsive part. Having a transparent independent 3rd party auditor that will stick around and even pick through your dealings would be much better.

CANADA DOESN'T NEED A SMALL pp

[–] Gnumile@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Or a big one... Or a medium sized one...

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes...yes...by all means keep shooting yourself in the dick by reminding everyone of how similar you are to that absolute clown-show to the south...

collapsed inline media

Boy this guy can't read a room, eh? Looks like cons will continue to sink by sticking with buzz words rather than actual substance.

[–] CanadianCorhen@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

whats that? ANOTHER reason not to vote PP?

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The thing is they've diluted that word that originated in the 1930s from African Americans being aware of social injustices and stuff into whatever they don't like.

What they've done is include things like "corporate pandering". Most of us don't like corporate pandering however it crosses into "representation" and stuff too so it really gets blurred. Like, are those gay people in this Netflix series put in there just to pull in a certain crowd? Here's the thing, they're treating "corporate pandering" like it's the end of the world. Go through any YouTube video on gaming and they'll be talking about whatever "woke" game is next non-stop. Sensible people will be like -- "I'm just not gonna buy it" or treat it as not a big deal.

Then they've rolled in ANYTHING left leaning. A women standing in the corner? Woke. A minority in a higher-up corporate position? Woke.

The threat of fascism and people losing their rights and the super-rich taking over the world and climate change and all this other shit is what matters. Woke is just a way to scare a certain large demographic into voting against their own interests.

When did woke take a negative meaning, how is waking up a negative.
