Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Hell, millions of Americans don't consider the US an ally. πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 39 points 5 days ago

When you threaten a country's very existence, expect that country's people to view you as a threat.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 30 points 5 days ago

Yeah, that tends to happen when you threaten to annex someone else's country. Fuck Trump.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I hope the usa will never be our ally again

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

well, if they overthrew trump, prosecuted his administration for their crimes, addressed inequality, banned guns, gave their people healthcare, built a yuge wall between church and state (and made the megachurches pay for it), and rectified the racism and other bigotry pervasive in their society, i would consider it.

shit, they would be better than canada at that point.

You didn't mention anything about eating the rich (which Canada needs to do as well).

what better way to address inequality? ;)

One thing at a time

If the US as a whole can come around and actually begin a programme of actually caring for people over selfish profit, I can embrace them again. The scale of such a reform has to dwarf their first Reconstruction by a long shot.

Did that version of the USA ever existed?

[–] asg101@lemmy.ca 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Did that version of the USA ever existed?

No. The US was founded on genocide, grown through slavery, and profited off of exploiting EVERY other nation that they could for their entire history. They support dictatorships and genocide all over the world. Oligarchy and Patriarchy was baked into their Constitution (only rich white males had a say) and the Oligarchy/Patriarchy has never given up any real power since then.

tRump has ripped off the mask for the whole world to see what the real US is, and only fools will forget what they have seen. I am certain the next tyrant the US votes in will be even worse.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Exactly , it was just a rhetorical question

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

The New Deal could be considered one time. Regardless of whether you agree with that, is there are reason that such a version of the USA could never exist?

To me, it's the greed, wilful ignorance and arrogance I hate, not the people.

[–] w3ird_sloth@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I hope we can. I've enjoyed the time I've spent in Canada immensely.

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 days ago

The US can eat the shit out of my ass.

I know there are a handful of sane Americans out there. They need to get a handle on things down there before they're swept up in ICE raids. Take action before it's too late.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 days ago

I'm a US citizen and I don't consider the US an ally of myself nor anyone.

Fuck the US.

[–] Montagge@lemmy.zip 16 points 5 days ago

Nor should you

[–] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Here's hoping

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

however it goes this week, it's been great to watch the Jays battle the past month

still... it's not like it's actually a team of Canadians, as strong as some of the player's ties are

[–] AGM@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago

The US has no true allies.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

People of the us still are and half the states but yeah the federal government no one should trust currently.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I would disagree with that. I would say they’ve been our biggest enemy this whole time and NAFTA was a mistake. I hated how pro-US Trudeau was.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

welll. some people still are. Im not sure nafta was a mistake. In an ideal state we would use stuff as locally as possible so neighboring countries trading over shipping afar makes sense. I mean I am located in the us so might not be trustworthy but does it help I wish I lived in toronto?

Imagine going back just a year with this. No one would believe you. How do you wreck the relationship between America and Canada? LITERALLY CALLED THE FRIENDLY NEIGHBOR TO THE NORTH

Insanity.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Fully agree with the Canadians.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Maybe by the end of the term in 10 years it will be all Canadians.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I do not see him living for the next 3 years and 3 months.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 4 points 4 days ago

The more evil a person, the longer they live. It seems to be a rule of life.

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

Most definitely not.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 days ago

For the people in the back.
