Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

I hope the usa will never be our ally again

well, if they overthrew trump, prosecuted his administration for their crimes, addressed inequality, banned guns, gave their people healthcare, built a yuge wall between church and state (and made the megachurches pay for it), and rectified the racism and other bigotry pervasive in their society, i would consider it.

shit, they would be better than canada at that point.

You didn't mention anything about eating the rich (which Canada needs to do as well).

[–] lemmy_outta_here@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

what better way to address inequality? ;)

One thing at a time

If the US as a whole can come around and actually begin a programme of actually caring for people over selfish profit, I can embrace them again. The scale of such a reform has to dwarf their first Reconstruction by a long shot.

Did that version of the USA ever existed?

Did that version of the USA ever existed?

No. The US was founded on genocide, grown through slavery, and profited off of exploiting EVERY other nation that they could for their entire history. They support dictatorships and genocide all over the world. Oligarchy and Patriarchy was baked into their Constitution (only rich white males had a say) and the Oligarchy/Patriarchy has never given up any real power since then.

tRump has ripped off the mask for the whole world to see what the real US is, and only fools will forget what they have seen. I am certain the next tyrant the US votes in will be even worse.

Exactly , it was just a rhetorical question

The New Deal could be considered one time. Regardless of whether you agree with that, is there are reason that such a version of the USA could never exist?

To me, it's the greed, wilful ignorance and arrogance I hate, not the people.

I hope we can. I've enjoyed the time I've spent in Canada immensely.
