Is it ... the ... beginning?

[–] finder585@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I thought the same when the funny hot dog man turned war-criminal marched a surprising distance into Russia.

Nothing ever happens. :(

It would have been great if it was with Putin inside.

[–] mooncake@lemm.ee 82 points 3 days ago (6 children)

Damn you'd be banned on Reddit for saying that!

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Only if I'd wish if Musk would be in it right? Since it's a limo, it would have been great if Putin, Trump, Vance and Musk would be in it.

Let's rebuild the Titan sub and restart important exploration trips to the Titanic! That's a great idea for the uber rich! We all want to know what happened to the Titanic in great details. I have a super Nintendo knockoff controller they can use this time around. Also make it out of aluminum and do high pressure oxygen tests with the crew inside. I hear those are fun events.

Saying stuff not even as direct as that is what got me permanently banned and the reason that I'm here now

Reddit really chose to side with evil

I'm amazed no one has pointed out the possibility that this was staged by Putin himself as a prerequisite to enforce greater surveillance, military and police presence, claim opposition and Ukraine to be terrorists, and so on. This is, besides a malfunction, much more likely than a failed assassination attempt that went this badly, doesn't have a suspect, and got reported on.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

We can rule out a Ukrainian assassination attempt. They have a pretty good track record of success.

We'll know if it's a false flag if Putin immediately freaks out and increases his personal security or suddenly relocates to one of his bitch bunkers.

Why would he need a reason though? Couldn’t he just do that at any time?

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

it's easier if there's plausible deniability.

The headline is mistaken. I checked out an article with photos from the scene.

The limousine was authentic. The place was nice, a few blocks from the FSB headquarters.

But there was no "tremendous explosion" - the car just burnt. Every house had its windows intact, the car itself had its windows intact while burning, etc.

Explanations: technical malfunction, passer-by with fire cubes and a lighter.

"I'm not a fan of his politics or anything, but there's no excuse for attacking other people's property." - US conservative "opinion"

First of all, this does not look like an assassination attempt. The engine caught fire. A Russian-made limousine. Might be (politically motivated) vandalism, might be "a Tesla".

There's no freedom of speech or poltical expression in Russia anymore. The state controls the media and the media control the narrative. This is the totalitarian approach. The disadvantage for Putin/Kreml is that they really don't know anymore how deep the resentment against them goes. And neither do we.

Of course the explanation will be that Ukrainian sympathisers did it, but I think it's easy to see that a Russian does not even have to be a Ukrainian sympathiser to want Putin dead.

Ah so just like the US then

Who ever downvoted you needs to visit the whitehouse.gov and other government sites and social media accounts. They are like North Korean level propaganda now.

Better luck next time.

Man, when (when, not if) Putin dies eastern Europe is going to have a weeeeird power vacuum

[–] tomkatt@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

power vacuum

That's a strange way to spell "block party."

Now they're getting it - blow up putin - end of war and Ukraine prevails. Also, trump and his entire criminal organization no longer have the backing and deviousness of putin and fail. America wins. The world wins.

Let's not miss next time, okay?

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 24 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Of course, considering he's a paranoid former KGB agent who won't even sit at a normal table with his closest advisors, it would not exactly be trivial to drop him.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Eh. Regardless of how careful he is, he's still just a man. If it's a coup from within the security he has means nothing, and they will also know where he is at a given time.

Blowing up Putin would be nice but it’s not a guarantee the war would end. It would lead to a power struggle in the Kremlin, no doubt, but there are loads of hawks in that regime and many are much more extreme than even Putin.

Of course, a more extreme war hawk might end up benefitting Ukraine by hastening the collapse of Russia. Or it might lead to nuclear war. It’s really hard to predict exactly what will happen.

[–] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 38 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

is Putin dead yet? dude's old. somebody oughta smack him with a skateboard,

edit; comments suggesting some sort of violence against Putin tend to elicit a positive reaction.

curious!? fuckin "change my mind" meme guy has notes, but he might busy abusing his partner

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Much like Sadam before him, he has a number of body doubles so even if it did appear he was assassinated in public, probably get some story about a miraculous rescue and recovery if acknowledged 'Putin' was in the area at all.

[–] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (5 children)

it's so tedious. Putin, Orban, Trump, Bolsonaro, just an endless stream of vacuous cartoon characters

Captured image from the video shows that the hood of the engine compartment had been warped. This means there had been an explosion :

"However, media reports have confirmed that no one was injured."

Try harder.

[–] febra@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There’s a high chance that the car is just shit… would be nice if it was an actual assassination attempt but honestly who knows.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 14 points 2 days ago

It's an Aurus, a Russian luxury brand. Knowing Russian automotive engineering, I'm sure the only part that works properly is the engine, which was developed with help from Porsche.

"The attack on my life has left me scarred" 🤣

Being a clever bastard with a gangster mindset, of course Putin would have been paranoid one way or the other, so that won't change much I think. But things like that happening - no matter if it will end up being explainable as a proper accident or a failed assassination attempt or whatever - tend to undermine the mythos of being invulnerable and always 3 steps ahead of the game, that people like Putin want to disseminate about themselves. That's my current hope in the political climate.

Wow its dangerous in Russia. Exploding cars, people keep falling out windows, accidentally shooting themselves in the back of the head repeatedly then falling down elevator shafts. Someone should establish some safety programs.

[–] Red_October@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Godamnit, swing and a miss. Second time's the charm.
