The longer I live in this magaverse, the more I understand the desire to go live with chimpanzees.

[–] mnhs1@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The actual civilized primates.

[–] JailElonMusk@sopuli.xyz 33 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Their version of universal healthcare is picking the bugs off of each other, and it's still more than is guaranteed to most Americans.

Back in the ‘90s, my grad student roommate was studying how tanzanian chimps use certain plants only for antiparasitic effect. Quite effective and too small in quantity to be food. Medicine.

I keep trying to get my buddies to do a group groom session after we go disc golfing, but they aren't interested.

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

honestly, that sounds amazing, ill join your disc golfing group!

I get and appreciate the sentiment but Jane's own research showed how sadly chimpanzees are the same as us. War raids, murder, infanticide, rape and even torture.

They're our closest cousins and we all suck in the same way at a base level.

[–] knowone@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah chimps are actually some of the worst right? Their lives are kinda like a constant warzone. They also even do assassinations

If we're going for the "good" apes, then gibbons and bonobos would be the best bet, from what I understand. Though gibbons aren't in the same category (I forget which taxonomy level it's at), they're "lesser" apes. The only species of lesser apes still living too, I think. Not as great as the rest of us apes, apparently

And that's me done showing off some of my very basic knowledge of primates

Orangutans are pretty chill.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

Has she done research on bonobos? I think she mostly focused on pan troglodytes mostly

Only true if America begins performing military raids on Canada and eating their babies.

Chimpanzees are brutal

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hey, leave Canada out of this. Go eat someone else's babies.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

It's only natural, look it's what our closest living relatives do. It's in our dna

I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-ay to chimpan-zee.

If you knew anything about chimpanzees, you wouldn't say that.

[–] JailElonMusk@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago

If you knew anything about the magaverse, you wouldn't question it.

Jane was a class act, a total bad ass, and a huge inspiration for a little nature nerd (like I was at 6).

Sad to see her go, but she's left a huge mark on science and conservation and inspired thousands.

Now I'm a big nature nerd, and work to save it. Thanks for the guiding light, Jane.

A true cause for flying flags at half mast.

[–] Nutteman@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

But she wasn't a bigot, she doesn't qualify.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 53 points 1 month ago

Wasn't just Goodall, she was Bestall

Dicks out for Jane Goodall?

[–] mrcleanup@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

She was a classy lady, she might not have understood the gesture, but she would have weathered it with grace.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

she'll definitely R.I.P. Say hello to that great big chimp/monkey/gorilla in the sky for me

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If I was a betting man.... yes, Harambe

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Dicks out, gents. Dicks out...

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

King Kong?

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, I just got that.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, King Kong. That big ass dude fell a long time in the sky while he was falling.

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 28 points 1 month ago

91 impactful years. I hope to leave quarter of a legacy that she does. Rest in power.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

...the past couple (or like... 7) decades must have been absolutely maddening.

Rest well ma'am.

And the world gets a little bit more bitter. RIP Jane ❤️🐒

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

My condoms.... Condolences. Autocorrect ducks in my phone.

Anyway, remember watching her videos on KPBS and learning about chimpanzees and bonobos, gorillas and orangutans because of her. She was awesome.

My condoms. All my condoms!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

The Simpsons parodied her as a diamond mine owner who used the chimps to mine it
