Dramatic change over the last few years has left reddit a billionaire-owned nazi propaganda factory. It happens. Especially to outdated platforms that have been around too long. This is what billionaires do, they buy and fuck up everything.
It'll happen here, too. It's going to happen everywhere, very quickly, as nazi billionaires take over all media. They literally have nothing better to do.
I mean, it literally cannot happen here, that's not how federation works lol. If corpos try to host their own instances and flood the zone with content, we can just defederate from them. There's no way for them to "own" the entire fediverse.
at worst what could happen is for corporate instances to attract most users, then progressively push the protocol in a direction that makes it hard to run your own server and keep federating with them.
But then.. people could just say "okay fuck you too" and go back to the existing (then old) software and things would be exactly like they are now, so the way things are now is the worst case and things can only go up from here, and the way things are now is perfectly fine.
It baffles me that they would try to operate out of there in the first place, but what to I know?🤷♂️
