Obviously Reddit isn't safe but it does seem the mass majority are just finding out. After 50501 was left empty and r/Illinois is locking any political posts immediately, and several other subs are being left modless people are finally starting to realize.

Reddit post for context. I don't like linking back to reddit but some people may want to see it.

at worst what could happen is for corporate instances to attract most users, then progressively push the protocol in a direction that makes it hard to run your own server and keep federating with them.

But then.. people could just say "okay fuck you too" and go back to the existing (then old) software and things would be exactly like they are now, so the way things are now is the worst case and things can only go up from here, and the way things are now is perfectly fine.
