"After Canada-U.S. Crisis is Over" sounds like they think there's some kind of end in sight. Not sure where that is coming from. The crisis isn't over until USA stops behaving like a facist dictatorship, and I don't see any signs of them slowing that down or even thinking it's a bad idea.

I don’t expect it to be “good enough” again in my lifetime.

"Buy Canadian," or is that just "Don't Buy American"?

No need to punish Mexico for America's problem child.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago

It's still better to consume locally.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Canadian when available, non-US for other stuff.

[–] bowreality@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 days ago

You bet I’ll continue. One, I don’t think the relationship with the US is going to improve any time soon, maybe even in my life time.

Two, buying Canadian should always be the way as it helps our local businesses and overall our economy in the country. We had been buying from local farms already and now the Trump crap just opened our eyes to look at all products.

Habits take a bit to form but also typically stay unless there is an effort to change them. No need to change again.

We need to treat the US like they treat Cuba.

B i have no issue with buying European goods, it should be called the “don’t buy American” movement instead

No need to buy American booze ever again.

It only takes 40 days of behaviour to habituate people.

I will go to my grave before I have anything to do with the now openly fascist states.

Added openly.

the now fascist states.

Spoiler alert: They have ALWAYS been fascists, the mask has just dropped a bit now. Look at how many fascist dictators they have put in power or supported forever. It is a good thing that people are waking up to the real USA finally. I just hope the awareness persists when the mask goes back on.

Have added openly

It's a lifestyle at this point.

Keep it up!

I'm American but the other day I saw some frozen pot pies labeled as being a product of Canada so I tried it. Best frozen pot pie I ever had. Wanted to drop the name of the brand, but after now looking it up becsuse I couldn't remember the name, it turns out to be a Walmart owned brand (Bettergoods btw). So now I am wondering why they were labeled as Canadian imports.

[–] BCBoy911@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago

I've definitely noticed my consumption habits change and checking the label to see if the product I'm buying is made in America so I can put it back has become basically second nature at this point.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 4 days ago

Good. Keep it up!

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

It's not a crisis. It's a breakup. "Crisis" implies that there will be a normal relationship to return to, and I don't believe there ever will be.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

The crisis will never be over anyway. They will eventually elect another moron as president

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

But guyse, if we keep being so nasty and not fondling their leaders balls, they are gonna stop preclearance which will make it harder to visit, for which we will also be blamed, thereby making it worse. C'mon guyse they rilly rilly need this. Or, are you saying you want to personally be responsible for contributing to the downfall of the United Fascist Taints of American't?

/s (obvi I hope)

As an American, I support this. Also as an American, I know that in the long term it'll likely work about as well as "buy USA" ever did - which is to say minimally. In a capitalist society, economic reality will always triumph. If there's something the US can sell cheaper than other sources, eventually few people will think twice about it. Sucks, but that's the reality.

Good thing is: there's probably not a lot the US can sell you guys that's cheaper than other sources.
