Love the contrast between that piece of shit and the Toyota next to it that’ll keep running forever.

Those tiny little Toyota pickups were the best, I wish they still made them that small. Little 4banger motor, ain't gonna pull a yacht, but definitely good for moving stuff and better mpg.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Still do outside the US with the Hilux vs the Tacoma or whatever else.

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Yeah but is it really that small? Like old school 80s or 90s small.

The hilux is not but they have the hilux champ:

[–] flambonkscious@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How did they make the front of the thing so ugly?

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

I can't answer that.

I find most new cars ugly but I just kind of get used to it over several years after which they're just cars.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

my god, I love a utilitarian truck but fuck, that looks bad. goddamn.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm not going to defend that.

I feel like there are much uglier cars for sale in 2025 though.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

fo sho, and imminently preferable to a swastidumpster.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Fair point, still like 5.5m long.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

They're actually about the same size as they were in the late 90s.

I want me one of those or a kei truck. Id prefer electric if it were available but thinking of just getting a blown up older pickup and converting it to electric

Hoping the Telo Truck ends up being nice. Supposed to launch later this year last I knew. Length of a mini cooper. 5ft bed, 8ft plywood fits if you fold seats. All around was pretty interesting. Most will hate the looks, but I kinda thought it was cool. 350mile range available. 4 seconds to 60

collapsed inline media

Edit: looks like they are saying 4.5 to 60 with 260 mile range for single batter

3.5 to 60 350 miles with dual

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

yeah really, really hoping this gets to production. would be a worthy replacement of my old element.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

All I want is a LHD Kei truck with a CIWS on the back. Is that too much to ask?

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

with a CIWS on the back.

pointed backwards for propulsion, right?

tho it would be fucking cool to see a cwis equipped kei pull up, drop it's support strut brace feet, and open fire on a rogue cybertruck lol

[–] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

Gimme that old chevy s-10

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 11 points 2 months ago

Toyota technicals coming to a civil war near you real soon.

[–] Lawdoggo@lemmy.world 85 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just another right-leaning truck driver

[–] modeler@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's all perfect until the wheels come off

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Let me guess .... been in the car-wash (or a mild rain) at some point in the last 48 hours

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The tires are the one thing I’d expect to not become ruined from getting wet, but I previously thought that about vehicles in general.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Could be the active suspension failing on one side.

[–] 50MYT@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Looks more like the wheel fell off and the suspension is dragging

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 1 points 2 months ago

Looks more like "it's busted, bro"

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Everything’s computer!

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

The wheel, just like the car's owner, became unhinged.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It hadn't occurred to me until seeing a few pics of these trucks falling apart: the longer they're in use/on the road, the more we're going to see just how lousy and glued-together these things really are. It hasn't even been 2 years since they started selling...i have a feeling we're going to see some pretty eye-opening failures as time marches on.

[–] DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 months ago

Immolating their passengers isn't eye opening enough?

Musk is insane…now his new project(fuckup) is the US government. I can only imagine how much he is fucking that up.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 months ago

The chef's kiss on this photo really is the ancient Toyota beside him that you just know has been chugging along for literally DECADES probably requiring nothing more than oil changes and tire replacements.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Is it also leaving that white track on the road? Like some part below of it scratching the road..

I suspect that stuff laying around behind it, is also something falling out of it.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

I’m assuming the front right tire had an unplanned spontaneous disconnection and that white stripe is the rim or even axle grinding down.

That’s what’s so exciting about this highly overvalued car company. The attention to quality engineering.

[–] YungOnions@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Kinda looks like either the right side rear suspension collapsed and/or the wheel just fell off. I think the track is the damage to the road from the edge of the rear bumper dragging on the ground.

[–] Nfamwap@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Is that supposed to happen?

I'M FULL SELF DRIVING, BRO!

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Depends on the distance to the nearest lake, or retention pond

[–] Codandchips@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

As is quite often, The Simpsons had a view on this...
