Trump is openly directing the Justice Department to go after his political adversaries, adding to a sense of unease inside the department about job security and ethical obligations.

Even in an era of nonstop social media posts, Trump's weekend update stopped many government attorneys in their tracks. The president said he wanted to see justice served.

"We can't delay any longer, it's killing our reputation and credibility," he wrote.

What Trump said couldn't wait are criminal investigations of his most prominent critics: former FBI Director Jim Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff.

"I think the president's announcement of what he wants the Justice Department to do is so out of line with our history of promoting equal justice under law and fairness that I don't think that any federal judge is going to look at this and be happy about what the president is doing," Saltzburg said.

Haha. Emil Bove is a federal judge now ...

And according to this: https://ballotpedia.org/Federal_judicial_appointments_by_president

Between his two terms so far, Trump has appointed 232 out of the 829 active Federal judges. I think there is a decent chance that most of them would roll over if Trump asked them to.

Destroying the judiciary is not a distraction, it's part of the fascism. Can we stop posting these on every single story?

I agree with you 100%. I do also feel that those files may be the Achilles heel as both sides of the aisle (that haven’t actually engaged in those activities, which I believe and hope are the vast majority) can agree on.

His interest in underage girls was well documented before he was even elected the first time. I can't imagine what this could possible change. If anything, the Epstein files are a distraction from these real, actual harms being committed right now. Even Republicans are starting to turn against some of the things he's doing. I think that's where we should focus.

Yeah but we know this was indeed the first time there was hesitation within the core maga, let alone a broader negative effect with swing voters.

It's pretty clear the Epstein files hit differently than almost anything else.

He's going to keep on committing crimes until he is stopped.

I hope the next one doesn't miss.

He's as blunt as a hammer. How much more blunt can a person be?

[–] gdog05@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

That's actually the problem. He never really says anything, does he? His mafioso tactics have retarded our justice system at every turn. We all know what he's saying but he never actually says the thing. Except in this message to Bondi. He was very clear.
