The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.

With the push to please investors, user experience will likely suffer even more.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 17 points 4 days ago

Not just investors, but the fascist US government.

Hey cool beans we're the direct result of that! What good news!

I trust reddit as far as I can throw it these days.

I just don't understand why a person would choose to invest in Reddit. What exactly is the value proposition here?

So I work in advertising for a company that is top 20 on the Fortune 500. We advertise everywhere including Reddit.

The returns on Reddit isn't even very good. We still spend money there as a pure name recognition play.

As of now, for the company I work for, it's not working.

Shouldn't suprise anyone especially with the recent grovelling before Musk.

I've created this account here today particularly because I found that behaviour absolutely disgusting.

The LLMs already got trained with all the reddit data ...

[–] qjkxbmwvz@startrek.website 24 points 4 days ago (6 children)

I'm gonna try to guess the most likely LLM response to your post, trained on reddit data:

"This."

How'd I do?

Good. As shitty as they've been and as hostile as they've become to their own users, I'd live little more than watching the entire damned things crash and burn. More (but still not very) likely though is them desperately selling off before it completely self destructs. Of course if they do sell it, whoever they sell to will likely either make things worse or just shutter it. Most likely they'll stay the course and continue hemorrhaging usefulness and thus popularity.

Any way you read the cards Reddit is in a tailspin that they seem unwilling to do what is necessary to pull out of. Which is to say, they're too stubbornly idiotic to reverse their stupid, stupid changes and make a more open, user friendly, and community friendly platform. And I don't see Spez being that smart.

I mean why buy shares of reddit? What is it doing? It's alienating users.

Literally every single change reddit has done in the past few years has angered the user base, and the bot accounts increase day by day. Go to any niche subreddit, like one for a movie series, show, video game, etc. You will see a ton of "what's your opinion of X or Y?" And it's always such a weird choice of words, and it's clearly just a bot farming engagement to inflate numbers to shareholders.

I still use reddit, but I never post or comment. I strictly do that on one of my Lemmy accounts. And every few months, something will happen to make the experience worse. Like now, the frontpage "hot" sorting is broken. Just a bunch of zero up vote posts on weird subreddits I forgot I was subscribed to. Now I can't really get the news like I used to on reddit. It's broken, and there is tall that it's a result of Elon meeting with spez to talk about moderating the surge of Elon/Teslur hate.

Fuck reddit, more niche communities need to come over here, because I'm so tired of having to go through reddit to fine things I'm interested in.

It was going downhill since they got rid of the woman who was running AMA

The value of Reddit is the content which it is able to create. If users aren’t free to create content, there is not value.

I wonder how long until they ban porn. That'll kill it dead for sure.

I mean. Elon Musk is exerting control of the platform too. Do you really want THAT shit in your cereal?

[–] DFX4509B_2@lemmy.org 21 points 3 days ago

And my Reddit account is now gone, I nuked it.

[–] a9249@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 days ago

No surprise; It's seemingly all bots arguing with other bots now anyway.

[–] Grizzlyboy@lemm.ee 18 points 3 days ago

Good, hopefully spez will get what's coming to him. He really ran the site into the ground.

[–] wreckingball4good@lemm.ee 17 points 3 days ago

Far too many bots on reddit. Half the time I wasn't sure if I was talking to a real person.

[–] GoodOleAmerika@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Probably they tried to own the libs. Lol

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

I see the fall of big social media into fascism as a big problem, despite the fact that it makes them less popular. The nazis are actively destroying spaces for communication of opposing opinions. They don't mind the medias are harmed by that. The important thing is that what remains becomes a fascist echo chamber. Most normal people won't be able to find alternatives like lemmy, so it makes the numbers of people with opposing views who are able to communicate smaller with every fall of a medium, social or other.
