A Wall Street Journal report, citing an ATF bulletin, had previously said the casings were “engraved with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology.” The transgender symbols were later understood to relate to markings identifying the manufacturer.

And a third unfired case read: “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”

FBI director concludes speech with "Rest now, my brother, we have the watch, and I'll see you at Valhalla"

Reality is satire

“Rest now, my brother, we have the watch, and I’ll see you at Valhalla”

Why is a Hindu telling a Christian that he'll see him in Valhalla?

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 95 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

Fascists of all stripes have a weakness for Norse mythology.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 37 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, they do, sadly. I've loved Norse mythology since I was a kid but now I can wear a tee shirt with a Norse reference on it without people thinking I'm a fascist. 😞

Fun fact: christofascists are why most of Norse mythology is lost, everything that couldn't be recast as part of the Christian world was violently suppressed

He did not seriously say the valhalla line, did he? Please tell me that was actual satire?

FBI director is a nutcase

Who is this trans-ideology ammunition manufacturer?

Is trans ideology even a thing? I thought it was just people trying to live authentic lives?

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 51 points 23 hours ago

Is trans ideology even a thing?

That's called a Linux subreddit

I thought it was just people trying to live authentic lives?

It is

But fascists are trying to genocide us and will use any tool available to them

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 28 points 23 hours ago

https://www.transjournalists.org/tja-urges-caution-in-reporting-on-details-of-charlie-kirk-shooting-investigation/

It should also be noted that “transgender ideology” is a term coined for and used in anti-trans political messaging to falsely equate identity with politics, which is a way to frame transgender identity as a political choice rather than an innate identity.

"I'll see you in Valhalla"

Obvious Nazi dogwhistle is obvious.

Nazis are obsessed with Norse mythology.

[–] Zedd_Prophecy@lemmy.world 14 points 15 hours ago

This is true and as I am familiar with Norse mythology neither of them are eligible to go there.

Can we find the person who, for no apparent reason, interpreted manufacturers markings as apparent 'trans ideology' and ask him wtf that was supposed to accomplish? I mean if you don't know what some markings mean, aside from blatant bias is there any possible way to get to 'trans ideology' from manufacturers markings? Are they using male/female icons? Emojis? Printing them in rainbow colors?

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 76 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

EDIT: the misinterpretation may actually be a series of arrows related to a Helldivers 2 move. Up, right, down, down, down. There is an anti fascist icon of three downward arrows. I'm guessing the idiots thought the other two arrows looked like those astrological gender icons and decided that must mean trans somehow.

TRN. It's the manufacturers code for a Turkish company called Turan. That's what I heard at any rate.

Identifying that as trans is just rank incompetence. Anyone that stupid would be fired in a sane world. Under our fascist regime, new FBI director incoming.

[–] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 15 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It sounds like someone had a theory and Patel went off before any research could be done. Not to defend the fbi but it sounds like they did what they are supposed to it's Patel who keeps fucking up

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 16 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I'm not a gun person but my understanding is that no one who's looked at bullets could mistake a manufacturer's imprint. Where it is and what it looks like preclude it being anything else. It would be like confusing a barcode for a brandname.

When did "mind your own fucking business" become an ideology?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 117 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (6 children)

I opened up Ground News today and the mainstream news sources are just full of this statement that the bullets were "engraved with transgender ideology." Someone has been making very sure this falsehood is the message all the journalists take away and report. And now it has been all over the news throughout the day.

It's horrible seeing the fascists lie and lie to set up trans people as villains and enemies.

And what's with this "anti-fascist ideology" thing? Remember before 2015 when anti-fascist ideology was just the default and the baseline for being even a half-decent person?

Reminder that Ground news exists entirely to push a "both sides" narrative in a world where right wing media openly seeks to push "alternative facts" and big lies.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 13 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Well, yes, I have a similar view of anything that makes politics into a balance between "left" and "right". Even to treat them as two ends of the same line overly elevates the right, which is just a bunch of base impulses, toxic personality defects, resentments, lies and scams dressed up as a political ideology. So I agree with your point and I don't treat Ground News as a map of truth, but I do find it handy for getting a quick overview of what many news websites are saying and how the right is spinning things.

"Family member" narc'ed.

Important lesson everyone, listen up: someone will always narc. It's a surveillance society in a heavily propagandized world. Your right to remain silent is all you get.

[–] missfrizzle@discuss.tchncs.de 46 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

he called his dad and confessed. his dad advised him to turn himself in. he said he'd rather commit suicide. his dad called his youth pastor to talk him down, who called the US marshals to secure him. I feel bad for the dad.. that's got to be a genuinely horrible situation to navigate.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 34 points 18 hours ago (8 children)

Youth pastor calling the marshals man. Cold.

Would Jesus narc on you? Friend, he would not. Mostly because he didn't exist but still. As a character that is not consistent.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 22 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Jesus did actually exist. He was like a guy that was really there at some point

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 16 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Not the dude in the Bible, because the things he's supposed to have done are impossible. So probably there was some dude that did or said some things and then got a bunch of folklore attached to him. A certain amount of the jesus story comes from contemporaneous myths - IIRC, a virgin birth was a common one.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 16 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

So probably there was some dude that did or said some things and then got a bunch of folklore attached to him.

Yeah. Likely Osiris. Almost all of the Jesus stories are taken from earlier solar deity “myths” and put into 1CE Judea. Like a graduate school production of Richard III in space with cigarettes.

Inscriptions on a fired casing read: “notices bulges” capital “O-W-O what’s this?”

Imagine having to say that at a press conference.

[–] mister_flibble@sh.itjust.works 54 points 16 hours ago (4 children)

So to sum up, Charlie Kirk was downplaying gun violence in the US, and using a racist dogwhistle to do so, WHILE standing under a giant fucking "prove me wrong" banner, when he was shot with a bullet labeled "OWO what's this?" by a Mormon cop's kid from Utah (ie, whiter than raisins in potato salad).

That is an actual fucking series of events that actually fucking happened. We've gone past "the onion is reality" to "this would be too on the nose if it was an onion article and yet it's somehow reality".

The other inscriptions on the fired casings:

“notices bulges”

capital “O-W-O what’s this?”

Inscriptions on the three unfired casings:

“hey fascist!” “catch!” Up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols.

“Oh Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao.”

“If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”

Also:

A Wall Street Journal report, citing an ATF bulletin, had previously said the casings were “engraved with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology.” The purported transgender symbols were later understood to relate to markings identifying the manufacturer.

[–] OboTheHobo@ttrpg.network 60 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (5 children)

This says that the "sequence of arrows" was interpreted as a transgender symbol.

Now we know that the sequence of arrows was "up, right, down, down, down"

...that's the strategem code for the 500kg bomb in helldivers 2.

The ATF interpreted a video game reference as a transgender symbol...

Edit: another claim I'm seeing, quote from snopes:

Some users online claimed officials had misinterpreted "TRN," an engraving found on ammunition produced by Turan Ammunition, a Turkish company, as "transgender ideology."

This is a more logical mistake to make but is also an embarrassing and irresponsible mistake from the ATF if true.

How was it engraved? Did the guy own some sort of engraving rig? How did he fit all this text on a bullet?

New article suggests the shooter was from a MAGA family, and even had a note about what kind of messages they planned to engrave they had shared on Discord.

Hey can someone tell me what the fuck "transgender ideology" means? Because to me that phrase makes absolutely zero sense

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 36 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (4 children)

“Transgender ideology” is the outrageous radical belief that transgender people are people and deserve to be able to live their lives.

Just right-wing drivel to discredit a minority they don't understand. There's not much to understand beyond that because them they don't understand it themselves.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 13 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

TRN. That's what was on the bullet. Which is a manufacturing mark.

Other things written on the bullets imply that the shooter idolizes Nick Fuentes, and is, in fact, somthing called a Groyper.

As a note, Nick Fuentes hated Charlie Kirk.
