That'll teach them not to protest genocide...we're the good guys, right?

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago

"Genocide is acceptable if the population to be eliminated occupies land that the President covets, and wants to use to build luxury condos, hotels, resorts, and golf courses. Development is more important than poor people."

If all our schools and businesses could not be direct extensions of the federal government that would be great.

All the conservatives who cried about snowflakes and safe spaces now have safe spaces for their snowflake politics.

It's not just Berkeley, it's the whole UC system. Berkeley just actually notified the students/staff about it

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

UC berkeley leadership needs to be removed and prosecuted. They are not up to the job.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Prosecuted for what? I agree they should be removed from all positions and we shouldn't cede Berkley any respect like we shouldn't with Columbia University but prosecuting them requires laws to have been broken.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

prosecuted for disclosing students and faculty information on what is free speech. No one is legally required to take a political position thats favorable to zionists or jews. Thats been the elephant in the room this whole time. In shipping that info they abetted in a legally unsanctioned activity.

Find me the law they broke. I don't believe they broke any laws and only committed ethics violations.

  1. civil rights violations for impinging on protestor/employees right of free political speech which clearly do not violate any of the exceptions to free speech. The feds and berkeley admins would have to prove that holding a sign that supports palestinian civil rights, freedoms, and ending a violent conflict violates Title 6 of the civil rights act as antisemitism. I doubt the government will be able to pull that off, but its about time they tried it and got their arse kicked for it. It'll be a nice precedent.
  2. Unreasonable search and seizure of their "papers, houses, persons, and effects" by the government.
  3. Shortly they will likely be a party to malicious prosecution and baseless retaliation, which will be tried in a California court, where they will absolutely win.

I wouldnt place any bets that they "violated no laws".

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nothing you listed is a law they broke though. Berkley isnt obligated to provide or protect your free speech as an emloyee.

Berkley did not investigate anyone’s homes.

Berkley did not break any law.

After that last comment I went and read a few of your other comments. Who am I to disagree with a guy with your opinions on batman and the duke nukem forever video game. I bow to your compelling 'nu-uh' argument and will pursue it no farther with you.

You have yourself a nice day.

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For me to have a more compelling argument you actually would have to present a law they broke. You did not provide any evidence that they broke any laws so nuh-uh is the best you can get because you cannot support your own claims.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You never made any reasonable proposition to start with. You made a provocative statement that civil rights and constitutionally guaranteed protections dont apply here and didnt back it up with anything but your opinion, as if you were an expert. I looked through your comments to see if you had the experience to make such an off the cuff claim with no proof and I found duke nukem and batman comments, which leads me to beleive you are not in any way an expert-- just a kid talking about your personal opinion. You are free to have an opinion sure, but without a citation of your own, your assertion that the laws dont apply here is nothing but your opinion. You are the arbiter of nothing and have presented nothing but an editorial so we're done, buddy. I'll let you know if I have video games or DC comics questions though.

No offense intended, we all have opinions, but dont pretend you pulled some logic or justified your position here. By all means, have your own opinions about civil rights, and Have yourself a good day.

Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, and Berkeley.

Do you think they're the same investigations at Liberty, Brigham Young, Grand Canyon, and Baylor?

wait til these UCs/universities start bitching about low enrollment due to this, among other things like "job prospects". the STATE uni in cali have temporarily put a bandaid on thier enrollment issues.

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They're already struggling because very few international students feel safe in the US now. Much of the research at the UCs is performed by international students.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago

at least for the state uni, it was before he got elected. last i heard the states uni put a bandage, by giving hs students early admission if they do x"classes to meet criteria". its a symptom of a larger problem in the long run, yea trump just added more insult to injury. and because of covid, early on people were pissed they dint even get a proper education from the universitiy.
