Now do Trump
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

No, we needed to heal and let him run again so he could finish the job of stealing the election.
@ United States of America, that's how you fucking do it.
He'll be 97 when he gets out, if he lives that long.
Good riddance.
Eh, wouldnt be hard to get it reduced tbh, I doubt he will actually stay there for 27 years. But Ill take what I can get
You'd think attempting a coup would warrant a total block of any reduction in the length of sentence, but oh well.
FYI: South Korea's former president got pardoned by her successor after her impeachment & removal & imprisonment. (The one back in 2017, not the recent 2024 one)
On the less positive side: one of the judges disagreed with everything, tens of thousands of supporter were supporting him in the street when the ruling happened, parliament allies are trying to make an amnesty law for him. I hope Brazilian people keep fighting for their democracy hard because the attacks will never stop.
I can't speak for the whole country, but at least in my city, it's notable how bolsonarism has been losing energy. I know people who were strong supporters who are not caring for him anymore and less and less people are talking about him in public places. I believe today's news will deliver another strong blow against this collective madness, and the slow improvement in the economy since last elections will bring more people back to supporting the left parties, at least the worker's party.
Once the online propaganda/psyops funding dries up, it's amazing how quickly the masses move on from a controversial figure. That's why I don't think the MAGA infection that the US has will last long without billionaires continually pumping their bullshit. There'll always be cultists, but I even remember seeing how quickly most folks moved on after 2021, only for a resurgence around late 2023 when lots of billionaires flooded his campaign coffers.
See, America? That's how you do it. Learn from Brazil.
apparently brazil's government is more functional than USA's
Bolsonaro has been sentenced to 27 years and three months, Trump was elected for his second term. Now who is bigger democracy? Maybe because Brazil plays REAL football?
Brazil showing the U.S. how it's done.
If the US had done this after Jan 6, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.
When Brazil respects democracy more than America.
We're fucked, y'all.
We
Sounds like a 4% of world population problem.
From my perspective: So far the best SOAP that I ever watched. The episode yesterday with the gun sidestory was insane.
regardless of how you feel the united states falling to a fascist regime effects everyone on the globe the same way the industrial power of germany falling to fascism was cause for global war.
frankly, you are espousing the one of the most ignorant opinions i’ve ever heard. i’m not saying this because in some pearl clutching american. im saying this because you seem to have no idea about how cause and effect play out on a world stage.
keep feeling safe and acting like none of it matters. your country isn’t immune to what’s happened here, and it’s certainly not immune to a fascist american military. you’re no better than the 60-ish% of americans who complacently have allowed the current status quo to come to pass.
As an American I find it difficult to understand how a working justice system can convict a criminal.
MORE OF THIS!
It's nice to see traitors held accountable for their actions. Maybe one day the US will take note.
Meanwhile Merrick Garland somewhere is sitting happy as a pig in shit.
I remember all the people on reddit in 2020 who were loudly insisting that Garland was just biding his time and making sure that the case against Trump was ironclad before moving against him. I'd say lol but it's obviously not funny.
Life in prison effectively. If only we could start putting our leaders in jail for their crimes.
Brazil gets to sit at the table with Iceland on the list of countries who jailed the people responsible for almost torpedoing thier own country. (In Icelands case, it was the bankers involved in 2008s financial crisis)
27 years seems pretty lenient given what he was convicted of. I realise that he'll probably never be free given his age but I don't think that the defendent's age should affect the sentence, especially when they still have their supporters like Bolsonaro.
So basically Brazil is less of a banana republic than the USA.
How delicious.
mfw corrupt as hell Brazil is less corrupt than the USA.
Hahahahaha!
If he was American, he would've just gotten another term
Basically a death sentence. He won't live long enough to serve his full sentence.
Too lenient, don’t give this guy a chance to get out.
He's 70, most likely way out for him is a casket.
60 days to file, 5 to appeal after the filing, yadayadayada.
He's still basically out on bail, don't act like he was remanded into custody today, people.
Seems really low
Now do Donny 2 Inches !!
Should be longer considering it's a crime against the entire population of the nation.
