There has been no sources that has released details of the motive of the person that shot Charlie Kirk. However Pierre and Scheer seems to know exactly why it happened.

Pierre and Scheer had nothing to say about other school shooting that involved kids.

Seems like they're setting up for the same rhetoric as last time.

Her post is a pretty rational take

anything you're worried about them doing, they were already planning on. don't let yesterdays events wipe your memory of the last year

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

She nailed it, and all that other person saw was hate. I don't know what that means, but she shouldn't have to take that.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

My trumper dad and I could only agree on her points in re ck’s death, they’re completely valid.

[–] SamuelRJankis@sh.itjust.works 38 points 2 days ago

Just to add they also had nothing to say about the very verified political shooting of former Minnesota house speaker

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/article/federal-grand-jury-indicts-man-accused-of-killing-former-minnesota-house-speaker-melissa-hortman/

And adding links in case people want to see what kinda of commentary their remarks led to

https://xcancel.com/AndrewScheer/status/1965880154175189241#m <-- This one has already led to death threats for Rachel

https://xcancel.com/PierrePoilievre/status/1965858876051603933#m <-- This one specifically proves Rachel point

That is what happened though and for many on the right that’s exactly where their minds went first

Wire Article - Right-Wing Activists Are Targeting People for Allegedly Celebrating Charlie Kirk’s Death

They got a website and a list going. The protect the women and children conservatives are awful quiet along with the anti-crime ones.

A central hub of this activity is a website called Charlie’s Murderers, which was registered in the early evening on the day Kirk was shot and is revealing certain personal information, such as social media usernames and email addresses, of individuals the operators believe were celebrating the horrific murder. One of the first names listed on the sites was Rachel Gilmore, an independent journalist at Bubble Pop Media who wrote on X that she was “terrified to think of how far-right fans of Kirk, aching for more violence, could very well turn this into an even more radicalizing moment. Will they now believe their fears have been proven right and feel they have a right to ‘retaliate,’ regardless of who actually was behind the initial shooting?”

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I looked at the list. It's, ironically and unsurprisingly, the exact same thing they claim the left is doing to them: trying to cancel people for exercising their free speech rights.

It even includes people's current employers and the cities they live in. Even better, though, is that they don't even limit it to just people who are celebrating or calling for more violence—they include memes and comments pointing out the irony of the situation, Kirk's hypocrisy, people expressing their reservation of sympathy/empathy, and even a couple of comments that are literally just people expressing their worry about how the right will react to Kirk's death.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

That's also where Trump immediately went before they even had a person of interest. They're all just spreading misinformation to set up a narrative that justifies what they wanted to do in the first place.

Why do people say "political violence is never justified" and not "violence is never justified"

Are some people more worthy of life because they speak about their political opinions to a lot of people?

Fascists: Yes.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because violence is a necessary tool to enforce your beliefs. E.g. one shouldn't genocide. You ask the genocider to cease. They don't. You use violence to communicate your desire.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But wouldnt that count as political violence too?

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not if it is against someone outside of the hierarchy you live in.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

That's just international politics

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

For the same reason they only recognize two sexualities, straight and political. Whatever they do is acceptable and proper, but should anyone else do it it’s unacceptable. This is why state-approved violence directed by politicians isn’t political.

Scheer, Polievre and his beard are trying to cause bodily harm to Gilmore. Gilmore made a police report yesterday and hopefully is seeking more help (eg. Lawyering up at the very least). Gilmore is already on that website and getting hate mail and death threats because of Scheer and PP and his beards amplifying lies. I hope Gilmore sues TF out of Scheer, PP and the beard personally for millions and millions in damages.

[–] karlhungus@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

I hate that i've learned this.

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I was always opposed to them.

Now I genuinely hate them, and it feels a lot more personal.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Out of all violence; political violence is the most justified.

No matter which side is doing it, it’s for a reason so I’m not sure why they would say something so demonstrably false.

Now I’m out of town so I’m missing the 9/11 festivals but at least there was something to put s smile on our faces so no idea why these politicians aren’t celebrating it.

Charlie was killed by a bolt-action rifle, them's still legal in Canada. Neolibs have been eroding every legal means of challenge to the state, a strategy that predictably has short-term payoffs at the cost of violence as the last remaining option for those who the state targets. Imagine all of the people who were killed by Doug Ford's axing of medical care alone, it would only take one family member who realizes he won't stop for it to happen to him. PP has decided that fascist rhetoric imported from the states was the most effective avenue to expansion of the interests of capital, and seems to have just now realized that he wasn't prepared to play that game.

[–] OliveMoon@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

Has PP ever commented on the June 14, 2025 assassination of Melissa Hortman, the leader of the state House Democratic caucus, and her husband, Mark?

[–] OliveMoon@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago

Seriously. Have you all realized how divided we are? This scares me, because if there is a war III, are we going to be united as Canadians???
