Have you heard? People have told me, good people. MEXICANS are taking our babies now. All of them! FOR FREE!

The idiot, tomorrow, probably.

[–] SebaDC@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Are these new new Mexicans?

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Those new Mexicans are so much worse than the old Mexicans! At least the old Mexicans know enough to stay in Mexico!

[–] SebaDC@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 days ago

Do you mean the old old Mexicans? Our the old new Mexicans?

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 31 points 5 days ago (1 children)

In before the executive order calling this communism cancels this.

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago

"States rights!"

*looks at new mexico

"Federal law rules!"

Not against it, but I bet the red hats will probably react in this manner

[–] anakin78z@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (3 children)

That's pretty awesome.

Also, reading other comments, holy fuck, y'all don't want good news, y'all want to be miserable. Why even read this sub?

"Chicken safely crosses road"

Comment: I bet the chicken is racist.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

In Europe, they have raised, covered chicken bridges every few blocks, so this isn't even an issue. Also public transportation and smaller cars, so they can actually see a damn chicken over the hood of their tiny, perfect baby cars.

[–] zabadoh@ani.social 4 points 5 days ago

It's always a white chicken.

The multitude of black and brown chickens were denied road access by the oppressive system, but the poor white chickens who were also denied access kept voting along tribal linesto keep the system in place.

because it makes people feel good to be miserable and feel morally superior to declare everything racist/bigoted/whatever.

a lot of people don't genuinely engage with content. they are just there to be trolls. or they are bots.

the point is making comments like that though, drive engagement. good news doesn't drive engagement.

FWIW i used to be part of a really cool bicycle group. Then a bunch of miserable people choices and decided everything we did was racist and sexist and anti-trans. If you dared to say that isn't the case, they would tell you that it's because YOU are racist/sexist/anti-trans. These were the same people who spend all their free time making social media posts about how awful everyone is and how great they are. Their entire social world is limited to 'i am good people and everyone else who isn't like me is bad people' and they subsist on a diet of social media induced RAGE at the 'bad people'.

Incredible! I had no idea this was going on; thanks for sharing!

I'm happy about this policy...

but my invincible anxiety takes my mind straight to the predictable Maga backlash and then I get so f***ing enraged

they literally want all non-white babies to die, either by starvation or police bullets.....

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

If this scaled, along with public education, you could literally house the child care and public campuses under the same roof. Kids would grow up with friends they made as toddlers, etc. Really would be fantastic

[–] cjoll4@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Great article! It presents dimensions to the issue that I had never considered before. I hope other states take notice. I ought to reach out to my representative and senator.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Meanwhile in California “Best I can do is attack the homeless.”

Good work, New Mexico. It’s nice to see there’s still some common sense and decency in the US.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

I’m sending the troops! 🫲🍊🫱

Instead of normalizing the new right, this is the kind of policy Dems really need to lean into if they're really concerned about attracting "moderates" without losing their base.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How is the childcare being funded? Are the childcare providers being paid a living wage? Is it being funded under the same umbrella as elementary schools?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 days ago

You could probably find the text of the law and find out yourself...

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

How dare they go against the king and provide care for children?!? I'm sure MAGA will have something to say about this.

[–] zabadoh@ani.social 4 points 5 days ago

"Communism"

[–] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The project 2025 people are also proposing a big overhaul to pour money into families to help with the cost of raising a child, but they only want to help "the right people" and are focusing it on strengthening the "nuclear family" so one the man can work the woman can stay home and have more babies.

So the opposite of fiscally conservative policy or small government. This is literally just pour money like gasoline on a fire to control people's lives:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/project-2025-policy-more-babies-b2819617.html

The New Mexico policy on the other hand is just saying here is help for families to raise their kids regardless of what those families look like. Maybe you're a single mother or maybe both parents need or want to work. Maybe one parent is sick and can't take care of the kids while the other works. Maybe one is in school.

Who knows. Life is complicated. Shit happens. The government shouldn't be trying to micromanage everyone's life. You don't deserve to be punished bc you don't fit the shape of what some trust fund baby working for the Heritage Foundation decided the American family is supposed to look like to them.

model for the nation

Still decades behind other developed countries but sure, better late than never

Don't worry though, trump will label this Dei within a month and it'll be torn down by trump ass lickers

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Jesus just give up quietly so everybody else doesn't have to hear this limp talk.

Encourage good things, people, or do not discourage them.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Mind if I go live next to you under that giant stone?

There is pessimism and there is realism

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Pessimism - Everything is bad and will continue to be bad

Realism - Everything is bad but we can do better

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Realism: everything is bad and could get better and maybe even might get better someday but for the foreseeable future, possibly even an entire generation, things will be getting much, MUCH worse.

Trump might kill us, climate change likely will kill at least one of us, and on both fronts, instead of making it better were making it worse

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

B-b-buh thass soshulisum!

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So, is this Mexico somehow or yet another bamboozle like when US call itself 'Murica even though they but a fraction of the continent?

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The states of New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, Texas, and parts of Colorado all used to be part of Mexico.

[–] lemmyknow@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] Cenzorrll@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Yeah. Wait til you learn that New Mexico is older than Mexico.

[–] Legwarmer1411@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Somehow I read free children for all and my mind was like wtf

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago
