Imagine spending decades building up a supranational institution to buttress your position as global hegemon and then throwing it all away for your genocidal pet project.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 34 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The genocidal pet project is 80 years old.

And the Christian fascist mental illness has been built through decades of psychological warfare.

And It was working so well for them, they just needed to wait and take their time. Now they've decided they can't wait, and managed to attract unwanted attention.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Doesn't seem to be stopping them, unfortunately.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No but it has other consequences

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

They dont seem to care too much.

[–] HootinNHollerin@slrpnk.net 53 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Do it. The US threw away its hosting

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Isn't it next month? Would be a monumental effort to change safely and effectively at this point. I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, but it's not very practical.

According to the article tagline it says its today

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Then it's definitely not going to change.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

Not with that attitude, it's not!

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 39 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That’s the goal here.

The Trump admin wants to get rid of the UN, this way they can say we didn’t leave - they left us.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

Trump is a symptom, not the cause.

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 37 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Just move the whole organization away from the US. Out of our territory. And if possible remove our veto.

[–] PhilipTheBucket@piefed.social 16 points 4 days ago

It's a wild indication of how far things have fallen apart that for so many decades, "the US isn't going to do any crazy fuckery and it's safe to host this vital transnational infrastructure there" was working fine.

Also, completely agree. IDK where the UN should be hosted going forward, but it sure as shit should not be the US.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 5 points 4 days ago

As much damage as the American veto does (especially regarding Israel), I'm afraid of a version where Russia and China run the meetings.

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago

Move UN somwere else, US is sponsor of Terror, can't be a home for UN. Make USA irrelevant!

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 27 points 4 days ago

Good. This was my initial reaction. “Move the meeting somewhere that Trump doesn’t have the authority to block people from attending.”

[–] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Please also get rid of the Security Council Veto.

Better yet get rid of the Security Council all together and do everything in the General Assembly. With the 2 thirds majority requirement for passing items.

[–] skibidi@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

UN votes are largely symbolic, they have no actual policy function in almost all cases - member states must create and ratify separate treaties for that.

Removing the veto just leads to the veto-holders even more flagrantly undermining the UN's authority.

[–] Krukenberg@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

League of Nations was bold from time to time. That didnt help. The UN, the security council and the veto rights is all about maintaining the status quo.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago

Yeah, i would encourage all international communities to boycott the US entirely until Pedo don is in prison and the nazi's aren't in charge any longer.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

As if this would change anything . That's not the answer. The answer is to keep deviating from the usa policies. Remove all the stupid conditions for a two state solution, stop saying a future palestinian state need to be demiliterized, stop saying israel has the right to defend itself. Impose cuba style sanctions of israel. Countries should stop lying about them stopping selling weapons to israel
